Ever wonder about the General Mobile Radio Service, aka GMRS?
Ever wonder about the General Mobile Radio Service, aka GMRS? The folks at AZ GMRS Repeater Club, normally a private group, run a public net on Tuesdays called "Travel Tone Tuesday" GMRS 1900 Net. Begins at 7 PM at 462.550 MHz (+) PL 141.3 Hz (White Tanks). This net is open to all GMRS licensed operators. If you are not licensed, you can still listen in. Actually, if you are a licensed GMRS operator, you can use this repeater all day on Tuesdays!? It's a great way to check out this great Family and Mobile radio service. It's very popular with hikers, 4X4 fans, preparedness folks, and more. The GMRS services allow the license holder and family to operate legally. I've attached a GMRS info card for your reference. Here's the full description from the Queen Creek ARC Net Calendar: AZGMRS - Tuesday 1900 Time - 7:00pm to 8:00pm Location: 462.550 MHz 141.3 (Travel Tone) Description: The GMRS 1900 Net is a general directed net with topics of interest to all GMRS Radio Users. Membership in the club is not necessary to participate in the net but all participants must have a valid GMRS License. The net is held with the National Travel Tone of 141.3 Hz. (This is GMRS lingo for setting your T-CTCSS/PL to 141.3 Hz) The net starts at 1900 Hours (Also known as 7:00 PM) and runs until all participants have had a chance to comment. It could run as late as 8:00 PM or end as early as 7:30 PM, depending on the number of participants we get. Net Control - Michael Manning WQYP827 Regards, Joe, N2QOJ / WRJA748 |

RAH, Radios At Home - Saturday, September 16th, 10 AM till 2 PM
RAH, Radios At Home - Saturday, September 16th, 10 AM till 2 PM ? This is the last RAH event of this summer season.? This event is a great opportunity to test your simplex "reach" in the Valley and beyond. Radios@Home was initially introduced by Heidi K7ZAE when RUSS was sidelined due to the COVID pandemic that hit the US in 2020. It was designed to keep us all ¡°radio-active¡± even though we couldn¡¯t get out to the parks due to public area closures and social distancing requirements. These days¡.. Simply stated, it's the same RUSS activities but at home in the comfort of refrigeration (what some of you refer to as air conditioning). It is mostly an individual activity since it is at home but you can certainly invite fellow hams and guests to participate with you. The objective is to continue exercising our stations and skill set on a regular basis despite the Arizona heat (which some of you refer to as inferno). Operating off-grid power is still encouraged. Heidi has turned over the reins of this event to John, KI7PPW, who is well known to us as the venerable host of the Maricopa County New Ham Operator's Net on Thursday evenings and the very frequent guest Net Control Operator of the Queen Creek Emergency Group's Training Net on Sunday evenings. One very important item that has been changed is the duration of the event. To give more folks the opportunity to participate, the duration is now 4 hours - from 10 AM to 2 PM local time. That should give folks with morning commitments a chance to possibly participate in the early afternoon. Here are details for your calendars: ? When: Third Saturday of every month, from 10 AM till 2 PM ? Where: 146.460 MHz Simplex (T-Encode/Decode 77 Hz optional), 446.000 MHz and at 7.178 MHz LSB for those with HF stations. ? What: Log as many contacts as possible and please be courteous to others that wish to make contacts and move to another frequency if you are having an extended QSO. ? Why: The objective is to exercise on a regular basis our stations and skill set, operating preferably off-grid if possible. ? Who: Any licensed amateur radio operator directly and / or acting as a control station operator for non-hams. Questions? Comments? Contact John, KI7PPW, at ki7ppw@.... |

Business band nxdn
I have business band nxdn uhf radios, maybe 800 range, that I would like to change to amateur radio frequencies.? Does anyone know of a way to do this, or someone that can?
I have thought about if I could use them for gmrs.? I don't know the power rating or how that would go with the gmrs part rules.? Douglas KI7LIK Douglas V Amateur Radio and More |

Latest List of Test Sessions for September, October, and November
Here's the latest list of Test Sessions for September, October, and November in our regional area. Here is the new Technician Class study guide from KB6NU. It is great for self-study and available from the Queen Creek Amateur Radio Club website: Another reminder: The FCC fees for new licenses began on April 19, 2022. The good news is that the new FCC fee of $35 DOES NOT apply to upgrading your license class. Something new: Free study materials for General Class and Amateur Extra Class are also available at the Queen Creek Amateur Radio Club website: Note: The General Class study materials have been updated to support the new question pool that becomes active on July 1, 2023 and valid through June 30, 2027. |
Re: RAH, Radios At Home, August 19th
The Radios At Home event on Saturday, August 19th had a good turnout. We got to talk to one of the participants grandchildren and we also talked to a group traveling out for a weekend excursion. We learned that antennas without guylines swing in the wind which can have a distinct effect on both reception and transmission, and it appears that Diamond X50 antennas are great general-purpose dual-band antennas with a bit of a bias toward the UHF. We also saw a good example of why a PL tone might be used for simplex communications under certain circumstances. A log is now available online so that people can see who participated. My contacts are the only ones that have been logged so far.? If you participated and would like to send me your contacts, please email them to me at KI7PPW(at)ARRL.NET. You can get to the logs from my QRZ.com page or from the queencreekarc.org web page (thanks, Joe N2QOJ).
