Re: IMPORTANT - QCECG Interest Level

Hi Joe,
I would still love to be involved. Unfortunately, I've had some health issues that have been plaguing me for quite some time. While I'm trying to get them resolved, I'm on the sidelines of life until this happens. Please keep me in mind, I love the emails and hope to get back into life as soon as possible. I'm working on it.
Thank you,
Joan Yerger

??? The forecasters at NASA and the NOAA SWPC forecast a 'high probability' of aurora being visible tonight as far south at AZ/TX. (It would be the dull red layers rather than shimmering green).

??? 4 big CMEs are arriving now over the next 24 hrs.

International Space Station Visible Tonight (7 minutes!)

Folks - Good news!

Another opportunity to spot the International Space Station this evening as it passes over our area in Arizona. It should be a great pass and hopefully the clouds will be minimal. It will pass about 61 degrees above the horizon!

Treat your family and friends to a viewing of the International Space Station tonight. I find that even the most non-technical family member or friend gets a kick out of seeing the station as it moves across the sky at 17,150 MPH - that's 4.76 miles per second - and about 250 miles above us.

If you are an amateur radio operator, take the opportunity to relate how hams can communicate directly with the ISS or through one of its transponders. The ISS will be visible for 7 minutes and should be a good viewing and becomes visible directly from the West Southwest and disappears towards the Northeast.

Time: Fri May 10 8:41 PM
Visible: 7 min
Max Height: 61¡ã
Appears: 10¡ã above WSW (from 247 degrees)
Disappears: 10¡ã above NE (toward 45 degrees)

I've also attached an illustration that will help you determine how to use this information. You can watch and track the station in advance at this link:

And, something new! I've attached a chart of the actual pass.

Remember, these times are based on a viewing site from the Mesa area (and within 50 miles). If you would like to generate times from your specific city or town, visit this link and follow the instructions. If your specific city or town isn¡¯t listed, pick the closest one:

The space station is visible for at least a 50 mile (80 km) radius around each of the listed locations.

If you are an amateur radio operator, listen in (or work) on these frequencies:

Voice and SSTV Downlink: 145.80 (Worldwide)
Voice Uplink: 144.49 for ITU Regions 2 and 3
VHF Packet Uplink and Downlink: 145.825 (Worldwide) - easiest to hear
UHF Packet Uplink and Downlink: 437.550
UHF/VHF Repeater Uplink: 145.990 (67Hz PL Tone)
UHF/VHF Repeater Downlink: 437.800

Announcing Radios At Home Begins May 18th

John, KI7PPW, is our 2024 RAH Host and Administrator.? Here is his announcement for this event.

(A pdf version of this announcement is attached.)

image.png RAH, Radios At Home Season: 2024 image.png

As the Arizona summer returns to remind us what the word "hot" means, it's time once again for "Radios At Home" (RAH) to return. Radios At Home was initially introduced when Radios Under Sun Shade was sidelined due to the COVID pandemic that hit the US in 2020. The idea was to keep us all ¡°radio-active¡± even though we couldn¡¯t get out to the parks due to public area closures and social distancing requirements.

These days...
Simply stated, it's the same RUSS activities but at home in the comfort of refrigeration (what some of you refer to as air conditioning). It is mostly an individual activity since it is at home but you can certainly invite fellow hams and guests to participate with you. The objective is to continue exercising our stations and skill set on a regular basis despite the Arizona heat (which some of you refer to as inferno). Operating off-grid power is always encouraged.
Here are the details for your calendars:

? Who: Any licensed amateur radio operator directly and / or acting as a control station operator for non-hams.
? What: Log as many contacts as possible and please be courteous to others that wish to make contacts and move to another frequency if you are having an extended QSO.
? When: The Third Saturday of every month, May through September, 10:00 to 14:00 hours.
? Where: 146.460 MHz Simplex (T-Encode/Decode 77 Hz optional), 446.000 MHz and at
7.178 MHz LSB for those with HF stations and privileges.
? Why: The objective is to exercise our stations and our simplex skills while operating off- grid if possible, and to make as many contacts as possible while simulating less-than- optimal communications during emergency situations.

Care to share your contact information?
We encourage those who keep a log of their contacts to email a copy to John KI7PPW at ?ki7ppw@.... That information can then be accessed either through the Queencreekarc.org web page or from John's QRZ.com page. It can be very enlightening to see who can contact who and how far your station can reach. These logs are still new and suggestions for making them better would be appreciated.

Questions or suggestions?
Please feel free to contact John KI7PPW at ki7ppw@...
