Job Announcement
Country Director
Kiribati
The Foundation for the Peoples of the South Pacific (FSP), a non-government
development organisation, seeks a Country Director for its office in
Kiribati, Central Pacific. Current programs focus on health
(reproductive/child health, nutrition), environment, conservation,
agriculture, water and sanitation and local institution building, with a
heavy emphasis on training and technical assistance at the community level.
There is also a long-term drive to develop the country office into an
independent local affiliate of FSP International. Program and
administrative staff include 19 local people with the Country Director
currently being the only expatriate. This position would start on 17 April
2001.
DUTIES:
The Country Director has overall responsibility for office management and
supervision, including:
¡¤ all staff, programs and finances;
¡¤ assure the reporting and implementation compliance requirements of donors
and FSP metropolitan offices are met,
¡¤ work with FSP regional offices on project development and the continuance
of program funding,
¡¤ cooperate with host country government and NGO agencies as well as UN and
other regional and international bodies assisting Kiribati,
¡¤ begin the process of implementing the FSP Kiribati localisation plan.
REQUIRES:
This position requires skills in the following area:
¡¤ A degree in a related area or 5 years of field work experience,
¡¤ management experience in a developing country (preferably Pacific Region),
¡¤ strong proposal-writing and financial management skills,
¡¤ organisational development experience and abilities,
¡¤ an ability to work independently and be self motivated,
¡¤ an ability to work and live in a some times difficult and remote environment,
¡¤ computer literate (Windows 95 & 97),
¡¤ a management style that allows local staff to develop skills and talents,
¡¤ experience in adult and non-formal education is also highly desirable.
