The Forum Secretariat was established in 1972 by the South Pacific Forum to
encourage economic and political co-operation between its member countries,
and between those states and the more industrialised countries.
PROJECT MANAGER - MARINE ORNAMENTALS CERTIFICATION
The Secretariat, in cooperation with the Marine Aquarium Council based in
Honolulu, Hawaii, is seeking a suitably qualified person for the position of
Project Manager - Marine Ornamental Certification Project. The long term
goal of the Project is to use market forces to transform the marine
ornamentals industry in at least three Forum Island Countries (FIC's) into
one based on quality and sustainable use of coral reefs.
The Project Manager is expected to be based at the Secretariat but will
report to the Director of the Marine Aquarium Council. The position is
part-time on a mutually agreeable period of approximately 125-130 working
days per year, extending over an anticipated period of two years.
Remuneration will be based on skills and experience, but is expected to be
in a range between $F30,000 to $F35,000 per annum.
The position is open to citizens of Pacific Island countries of the South
Pacific Forum or Canada. It is essential that applicants have the following
skills and experience:
? an understanding of, and experience in, sustainable development and
conservation, as well as business and industry in the South Pacific Region,
preferably in relation to marine resources;
? ability to develop a multi-stakeholder network and organise and facilitate
multi-stakeholder meetings and consultations;
? professional experience in a number of Pacific Island Countries;
? high level of organisational, project management and leadership skills,
self motivated and proven ability to work without direct supervision;
? excellent written and oral communication skills;
? computer literate (word processing and international electronic
communications).
An understanding of the marine ornamentals industry issues and practices
(preferably based on experience in the industry), coral reef sustainable
use, experience in labelling/ certification and research and report writing
would be highly desirable.
