SCHOOL OF SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Senior Lecturer in Economics (Agricultural Economics)
Ref. FEC020
The appointee will teach courses in Agricultural Economics at both the
undergraduate and postgraduate levels; conduct research and engage
in consultancy work within the area. The appointee will be expected to
contribute to teaching both on campus and through the distance
education mode. The appointee will also be expected to contribute in
developing a course in Marine Resource/Fisheries Economics.
Applicants must have a PhD in Agricultural Economics or Marine
Resource/Fisheries Economics. In exceptional circumstances, applicants
with postgraduate qualifications in Agricultural Economics or Marine
Resource/Fisheries Economics and an extensive publication record will
also be considered. Applicants must also have experience of teaching
in any of these areas at the tertiary level and a good research and
publication record. Preference will be given to applicants with
familiarity
with economic issues in agriculture/marine/fisheries in developing
countries.

Salary Range: Senior Lecturer F$52 940 to F$61 085 per annum
(Inclusive of 15% Gratuity)
In addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of
basic
salary to an approved superannuation scheme, provides airfare and
relocation costs where appropriate and substantially subsidises housing
for a selected candidate.

Lecturer in Economics (Tourism Economics)

The appointee will be required to teach courses in Tourism Economics
at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels; conduct research
and engage in consultancy work within the area. The appointee will also
be expected to teach at least one other course in economic
theory/applied
courses in economics. In addition, the appointee will contribute to
distance
learning courses offered by the Department.
Applicants must have a good postgraduate degree in Economics or in
Tourism area with tertiary teaching/research experience in tourism
economics. Preference will be given to applicants with familiarity with
economic issues in tourism in developing countries.

Lecturer in Economics (Environmental Economics)

The appointee will teach courses in Environmental and Resource
Economics both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels; conduct
research and engage in consultancy work within the area. The appointee
will be expected to contribute to teaching both on campus and through
the distance education mode. The appointee will also be expected to
teach at least one other course in economic theory/applied courses in
economics.
Applicants must have a PhD in the field of Economics with specialization
in Environmental and Resource Economics, or a relevant Masters degree
with good publication record and teaching experience in Environmental
and Resource Economics at University level. Preference will be given to
applicants with familiarity of environmental issues in developing

Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Financial Management
Ref. FAC016
The appointee will be required to teach in the department`s
undergraduate and graduate programmes and offer thesis supervision
at least to Masters level in the field of accounting. The appointee will
further be required to undertake research work in his or her specialist
area and provide support and guidance to junior colleagues.
Applicants must have a relevant postgraduate qualification. A PhD will
normally be required, but a candidate with a Masters, or equivalent
qualification, with substantial tertiary teaching and research
experience
and significant publications to his/her credit will also be considered.
Preference will be given to appointees who are able to offer management
accounting control systems and/or Information Systems and/or Auditing
up to postgraduate level, and make a substantial contribution to the
teaching of the accounting undergraduate curriculum. Teaching
experience through the medium of distance education will be regarded
as an asset. Experience and a willingness to work in and lead research
teams would be considered an advantage.
The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the
department`s consultancy activities as and when appropriate
opportunities arise. It is desirable for the appointee to hold a
relevant
professional qualification, and become involved in the work of the
regional
accounting bodies.

INSTITUTE OF APPLIED SCIENCES
Senior Technician
Ref. FIA032
The appointee will be responsible for maintenance and calibration of
analytical machinery and assist the Lab Manager in organising the work
and quality control program for the laboratory.
Applicants must have an Advanced Diploma in a relevant area with
extensive experience, or MSc with considerable experience, in machine
maintenance and calibration, quality control procedures and organising
laboratory work; excellent communication skills; an ability to interact
well
with the public and clients; be computer literate; and have knowledge of
occupational health and safety procedures.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in chemical and/
or microbiological analysis.

SCHOOL OF PURE AND APPLIED SCIENCES
Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer in Microbiology
Ref. FBI022
The appointee will be responsible for teaching a third year
Environmental
and Marine Microbiology course and contribute to teaching at 100 and
200 level courses. The appointee will also be responsible for the
development of postgraduate courses in Environment Microbiology
including terrestrial and Marine Microbiology.
For appointment at the Assistant Lecturer level, applicants must have a
Masters degree in one of the relevant areas. For appointment at the
Lecturer level, applicants must have a PhD degree or equivalent with a
good research and publications record and tertiary teaching experience;
experience in environmental microbiology covering both terrestrial and
marine systems. Candidates who also have some experience of the
interactions between micro-organisms and plants and animal pests of
agricultural crops would be of a distinct advantage because of the
regional
importance of agriculture.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience working in
developing countries. Experience of tropical biological systems is also
desirable.
Appointments at the Assistant Lecturer level will normally be made only
to citizens of the USP member countries.

VICE-CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE
PROJECT MANAGER

USP Solutions is the arm of the University that markets and manages
contract research, consultancies and training. The appointee will report
to the Manager, USP Solutions.
Key responsibilities:
- Marketing the capabilities of the University
- Promotion of client-focussed research within the University
- Management of contracts for research, consultancies and training
projects
- Monitoring of project implementation
- Financial management and project reporting
Applicants must be able to demonstrate experience of winning and
managing expertise-driven projects, whether for a social/market
research or engineering firm or for a research establishment such as
a university-owned company or a government science research
institution. Experience of contract negotiation, drafting and
management is necessary. A degree is essential and preference will
be given to applicants with postgraduate research experience.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience of: managing
projects in the Pacific region or a developing country; managing
consultants or researchers and negotiating outcomes within a
multifaceted
organisation. Experience of working in a university and of
managing either intellectual property or expertise databases is
desirable but not essential. Excellent communication skills and
sensitivity to cross-cultural and gender issues are necessary along
with competence in appropriate computer applications.
