The appointee will support the integrated Banner Management
Information System, including responding to user demands,
documentation and training.
Applicants must have a degree in Computer Science/Information
Systems or a relevant degree; relevant work experience as an Analyst
Programmer with an Oracle server or similar database, preferably in a
large multi-user environment; good communication skills in English (both
oral and written); and the ability to work with minimum supervision and
respond to a wide range of user demands.
Preference will be given to applicants with current experience in
SQL*PLUS, PL/SQL, PRO*C or C and PRO*COBOL or COBOL; working
knowledge of Oracle Forms 4.5 or higher; current experience with Oracle
Server 8i or similar database; familiarity working in a Client/Server
environment (Developed Client Server Applications); experience in a
VMS environment; and the support and use of the Banner Management
Information System or similar applications, the likes of a Student
Record
Management System.

Salary Range: F$38 686 to F$50 902 per annum

User Consultant

The appointee will be required to assist the Manager of the User
Services
Section in all aspects of its work including the provision of advice and
training to all grades of the University staff; coordinate training
programmes in IT Services, PCs and network troubleshooting, software
quality control and PCs maintenance. The University operates a wide
variety of equipment and software, and this position offers an excellent
opportunity for a suitable candidate to gain wide-ranging experience in
this rapidly developing field.
Applicants must have a degree in Computing Science or Information
Systems; must be familiar with Windows platform as a network client
and also on a standalone basis; be familiar with Windows NT or Digital
Unix or Open VMS; have the ability to conduct training in various
computer
topics; know how to diagnose hardware faults as well as software
problems; have the ability to work under pressure; and have a positive
attitude to teamwork with good interpersonal and communication skills.
Preference wil be given to applicants who have good administrative
experience and have some work experience in a university environment.

The appointee will be responsible for providing library information
services
to students, staff and general users on-campus and serving the
information and library needs of distance education students; the
acquisition of library materials and the cataloguing and classification
of
these according to AACR2 and Library of Congress Classification and
Dewey Decimal Schemes; working with gifts and exchange and assisting
in the production of library publications and other products.
Applicants must have a degree in Library Information Studies with
recognised professional qualifications from an accrediting body such
as the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA);substantial
relevant work experience in academic libraries; sound knowledge and
familiarity with library technology and automated systems, AACR, LC
classification and subject headings; proven IT experience with networked
CD-ROMS and the Internet; proven experience in the provision of library
services to distance and on-campus students and library users in a
tertiary
institution; and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in dealing with
library users in a multicultural environment and training library
personnel
at the paraprofessional level.

The appointee will work as part of a team, which includes course
writers,
instructional designers, media specialists and course development
assistants and will be responsible for providing high quality teaching/
learning experiences through the print media and other media for
distance
education students.
Applicants must have a good degree, preferably in English and/or
Linguistics; significant experience in content, structural and copy
editing
and in the production and formatting of printed materials; competence
in the use of Word and/or other desktop publishing software; excellent
interpersonal skills; and the ability to work in a team environment and
also to provide team leadership.
Preference will be given to applicants with formal qualifications in
editing
and with experience in developing and producing materials for second
language learners in a developing country.
