Applications are sought for the above position with the Pacific Concerns Resource Centre (PCRC) in Suva, Fiji. PCRC is the secretariat for the Nuclear Free and Independent Pacific (NFIP) movement. PCRC has programs on Sustainable Human Development, Environment, Demilitarisation, Human Rights and Good Governance, and Decolonisation. The position is open to applicants from throughout the Pacific Region. This position requires:
The position will be based in Suva, Fiji with a salary package of in the range of F$30,000 - $40,000, to commence in January 2002. PACIFIC CONCERNS RESOURCE CENTRE (PCRC) The Pacific Concerns Resource Centre Inc. (PCRC) serves as the secretariat for the Nuclear Free and Independent Pacific (NFIP) movement, with over 100 affiliated members around the Pacific region. PCRC¡¯s objective is to educate the peoples of the Pacific regarding their environment, political and economic equity, and justice and peace in their region. PCRC acts as the regional secretariat for non-governmental and community organisations engaged in campaigning, advocacy, research and information. It works to co-ordinate participation in national, regional and international fora, especially on issues of sustainable human development, environment, demilitarisation, decolonisation, human rights and governance. PCRC is a non-government organisation with Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. PCRC staff have participated in, and organised Pacific NGO participants for, UN summits and international meetings (e.g. Vienna Human Rights Summit, Rio on Environment and Development, Barbados on Small Island States, Cairo on Population, Beijing on Women). We monitor and organise around Platforms of Action and Declarations arising from these summits. PCRC publishes a monthly magazine Pacific News Bulletin, and regular research papers, action alerts and other information bulletins. PCRC works with government, intergovernmental and non-government agencies through conferences, meetings, lobbying and information briefings. PCRC also produces a range of education and information resources (videos, books, and pamphlets) on issues of concern to the region and the international community. Current program areas include: DECOLONISATION, LAND RIGHTS AND SOVEREIGNTY HUMAN RIGHTS AND GOOD GOVERNANCE SUSTAINABLE HUMAN DEVELOPMENT DEMILITARISATION ENVIRONMENT Secretariat PCRC is located in Suva, Fiji, and is headed by a Director, who is appointed by and responsible to the PCRC / NFIP Executive Board for the efficient management of PCRC. The Director also monitors and oversees functions of all members of staff, who are also appointed by the Executive Board. As well as the Director, the Suva office is staffed by Assistant Directors for to the five Campaign Desks (Decolonisation, land rights and sovereignty; Demilitarisation; Sustainable Human Development; Human rights and good governance; Environment), an Assistant Director for Finance and an Educational Resource Developer. PCRC¡¯s monthly magazine Pacific News Bulletin is also produced from the Suva office, co-ordinated by an Assistant Director. The PCRC structure makes provision for an English / French Translator, and a Conference Organiser / Fund Raiser. The support staff includes a receptionist / typist, an office assistant, three campaign assistants and part time campaigns researchers. ? Assistant Director (Demilitarisation) Through lobbying, advocacy, information and campaigning, the Pacific Concerns Resource Centre (PCRC) supports its affiliates in a range of Demilitarisation campaigns. PCRC¡¯s programs on Demilitarisation look at the impact on Pacific communities of militarisation in the Pacific The Assistant Director (Demilitarisation) co-ordinates these campaigns, with the responsibility: 1. To identify, establish and maintain relationships with key activists on identified priority campaigns; 2. To facilitate campaign support work and information flow between and among the regions on identified priority campaigns; 3. To stimulate potential international levels of support action for local and regional campaigns; 4. To liaise with the Educational Resource Developer on the production of resources for international audiences; 5. To provide Pacific News Bulletin with regular and accurate campaign information on a monthly basis; 6. To produce Action Alerts and notices where necessary; 7. To identify appropriate resources for campaigns; 8. To maintain files and correspondence appropriate to the campaign desk; 9. To prepare campaign proposals and budgets for Executive Board consideration; 10. To maintain a mailing list for campaign purposes; 11. To liaise with fundraiser for alternatives for funding campaigns. ?
