The Galapagos Archipelago contains some of the most unusual and fascinating
species in the world. 95% of its original plant and animal species still
survive. But human introductions of invasive species have greatly endangered
the archipelago.? The Charles Darwin Foundation for the Galapagos
Islands is working to develop methods of control and removal of these
invasive species through scientific investigation. Work includes research
on plants, insects, and vertebrates.? Through such research, combined with
education, training, advisory services and collaboration with the local
community, the Charles Darwin Foundation and the Galapagos National Park
Service are working to conserve the unique ecosystems that still exist in
these islands.? In the four decades that the Foundation and the Galapagos
National Park have existed, there have been important successes in control
and eradication of alien species and ecological restoration, for example
through captive breeding and repatriation of giant tortoises.

The Charles Darwin Foundation is currently going through a process of
restructuring and institutional strengthening. We are seeking an EXECUTIVE
DIRECTOR to join our institution, based at our headquarters, the Charles
Darwin Research Station in Galapagos, Ecuador. The successful applicant
will be responsible for overseeing all CDF operations locally, nationally
and internationally, while leading the CDF through a period of important
conservation challenges and opportunities, as well as the restructuring
and strengthening of the organization.
