PNG National Agricultural Research Institute - NARI
DIRECTOR RESEARCH
We are seeking an experienced and motivated researcher with demonstrable
experience in the management and development of applied research programmes.
NARI research is designed to contribute to the sustainable development of
the smallholder agriculture sector in PNG. The position provides an exciting
opportunity to benefit Papua New Guinea as the country moves into the new
millenium by directing and managing substantial research programmes towards
answering the constraints on rural communities.
NARI is an autonomous research institute constituted under its own Act of
Parliament and enjoys substantial freedom to identify research priorities
within national policy guidelines. The Institute manages its research
programmes within an agroecological framework with a farming systems focus.
The core research effort is supported by the government of PNG and major
projects attract international donor funding.
Applicants will be expected to have substantial research and project
management experience and should hold formal tertiary qualifications in
agricultural sciences, socioeconomics or similar fields. It is envisaged
that the successful applicant would hold a higher research degree but
substantial relevant experience at high level will also be well regarded.

This is a senior position (NARI Grade 18). The details of salary and
benefits will be negotiated at interview. NARI reserves the right not to
appoint any candidate and to extend the search if suitable candidates are
