DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general supervision of the Division Chief and the direct
supervision of the Section Chief, the incumbent conducts policy
research/studies and provides technical input in the formulation and
implementation of ESCAP=s programme on space technology applications, with
main emphasis on integrated applications of geographic information system
(GIS) and other related spatial information technologies such as remote
sensing; plans, organizes and services regional cooperative and technical
assistance activities in relation to spatial information applications for
sustainable development, such as conferences, seminars, training courses,
pilot projects and information exchange; undertakes various tasks in
connection with the general administration and management of the work
programme of the Section; and performs other duties as required.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS
Advanced university degree in related physical sciences or engineering and a
minimum of eight years of experience in space applications, particularly in
the field of integrated GIS and remote sensing development and applications.
Several years of technical responsibilities and policy study experience at
both national and international levels. Direct working experience in ESCAP
region is desirable. Experience in regional cooperation and collaboration
activities will be an advantage. Demonstrated capability on the following
core competencies: communication, creativity, planning and organizing, and
teamwork.
LANGUAGES
Fluency in both written and spoken English, with excellent drafting ability.
Knowledge of other official UN languages (i.e. Arabic, Chinese, French,
Russian and Spanish) would be an advantage.
