NOTE: While changing the gland, the Factory also recommended swapping out the DELRIN bushings? at the top and bottom of the rudder shaft - they were definitely in need of replacement.
I have the Sheel Keel and here is a photo of how I had to lower the rudder shaft to change out the packing gland.
I am not sure, but I recall I also had to possibly take tension off the steering quadrant .....
Here is a photo of the rudder position required to change out the gland. If you think about it; there is an emergency steering? access port in the cockpit and the rudder shaft is engaged there.
