Re: WUR and strange control pressure

CSV is fine. ?Power to the ?thermo element in the WUR. ?System pressure is fine, as is the leakdown time. Plate height is adjusted properly
?
The hard starting is completely due to the high control pressure, caused by spring tension in the WIR.
?
If I remove the springs, cold start pressure is dead on, and the car starts beautifully. ?But then belches black smoke when the engine warms up

Re: WUR and strange control pressure

Here's a good discussion on Rennlist.
?
Have you check the vacuum to the unit?
?
Let us know when you figure it out. I haven't dove into the CIS/WUR that much since I got lucky with my 79 and all is running great for the moment.

Re: WUR and strange control pressure

Cold start – Engine starts hard or fails to start:

?

  1. Cold-start valve or thermo-time switch faulty
  2. Fuel pump not running
  3. Air-flow sensor plate rest position incorrect
  4. Fuel pressure incorrect
  5. Coolant temperature sensor or wiring faulty (KE injection only)

?

A few things to check.

Subject: [PacNW928] WUR and strange control pressure

?

I had my WUR rebuilt several years by 928 Classics. ?Recently, it has been giving me fits starting when cold.

Pressure testing showed the cold control pressure was over 30 psi. ?When rebuilt, the screw/locknut mod was done. ?No amount of adjustment would bring the cold pressure down.

?

Yanked it and disassembled it. ?Everything looks fine inside. ?Tested the warm up strip. ?It works.

?

If I connect it back to the fuel lines on the car with the bottom 2 halves off (ie no spring pressure), the cold control pressure is fine at 14psi.?

If I depress the cup where the pin sits, the pressure smoothly rises, as it should.

But when I put the bottom back on, the two springs compress and raise the cold control pressure back up to mid-40s.

?

I have done this several times. ?The pin sits in the cup in the circular disc assembly properly. ?The spring cup and the springs are assembled properly.

?

Any ideas what could be going on?

Chris Ford picked up a project car back in the day that that was both "paint to sample" dark purple/burgundy (that faded very poorly) coupled with what I think was a replacement vinyl burgundy interior.? Coined the phrase "buttgundy" for butt ugly burgundy sometime around then :) .? That was such an "80's" color combo.? This of course is coming from some who has up until recently only owned black/black/black 928's LOL.?
?
As time marches on, I've come to really appreciate the deeper burgundy colors and color combos and think they make the 928's more unique.? There was one in the group a while back (Ray Henson) that was? a goldish silver exterior (silver sage I think)? with a "rose royce" full leather interior.? That was such a unique combo and really made the people inside the car "glow".? I'm sure there are pictures on here somewhere.
?
And one more old-timer story, one of our listers (probably still on here but not active) always seemed to be buying 928's with burgundy interiors.? After like the third purchase I asked him what he found so unique about the burgundy, and his answer was "I'm color blind, so it looks grey to me" LOL :D :D.??

I have had good success with Alan at A&P Specialties in Portland. Just had my ‘89 there this week to get a left axle assembly replaced.

They also resealed my oil pan gasket & redid the motor mounts a few months back.

Re: Nice GTS for sale

The GP Motors folks usually have quite high pricing on their vehicles.? This one isn't too bad at $59.9k, but I think that is almost a 5-speed price - They have a "custom Green" 1985 with only 6k miles (custom ordered for a Shiek of Kuwait) with painted F&R spoilers they are asking $99.9k.? Both cars are Auto's, so sounds like pretty high pricing.??
