Still no group members showing up for Hooked On Driving.? Following up from my message 2 weeks ago, HOD is back at the Ridge in Shelton tomorrow - Thursday June 20th.?
My #41 is back firmly on it's wheels (after fuel system clean-out - turns out the "in tank" PSI hose from the Fuel Pump was broken) and should be rockin' & rollin'.??
You can still sign up tonight or show up tomorrow by 7 AM to get your car on the track.??
There is room in C-Advanced (I will be leading that group of only 8 drivers), B - Intermediate (13 drivers), and A-Solo - Not enough? coaches for late sign up if you need to be A Novice with Coach.? I am also slated to perform Advanced Coaching if you are a "B" Driver and want a Coach for a session.??
The Ridge is a fantastic track - Was by far my favorite track for the 928.??
Hope to see some folks there.??

and found the two mid "large" resonators that had been
replaced by small mufflers on his long gone 87S4.? These look
pretty clean coming from a low mile S4 before being removed.
They are available for free if anyone wants them.
Note: These have been cut from the pipes, so it's just the two
resonators.? Pics below.

The IR temp gun works best on long tube headers. Cast manifolds tend to heat up evenly. Unless its cyl 1 or 5

Being inherently lazy, I was wondering if I could just take an IR temp gun and shoot each exhaust port to look for one that was cooler. I replaced all of them about 5,000 miles ago. But the car has been sitting for 8 months.

If it is the CIS, you can just pull the injectors, put them in bottles and press on the throttle plate and see the spray patterns of each injector to see if they are all spraying correctly.?
There are screens in the dizzy and in each injector.?
If 1 injector isn't spraying just get a new set from Roger. They are not expensive and it's better to have them all new if 1 isn't spraying at idle.?

If 1980-95 take out the injectors and rake them to witch hunter to be tested.
Normally it will be an ignition issue rather than a single injector. But it never hurts to have them tested and eliminated as the issue.

Misfire from fuel injector?
I am tracing down a misfire. ?Occurs only at idle. ?Opening the throttle and it goes away.

But when the throttle is opened, there is enough pressure to overcome the blockage in the filter and allow it to fire.

I had the fuel distributor rebuilt a few thousand?miles ago. ?I replaced the large gasket on the plenum
But not the O-ring under the throttle body. Imcan see that being a source of a vacuum leak. ?
Does this go bad?

Update, I found the barometric pressure sensor (#2) and put it back in-line between the throttle body and the decel valve (#3). ?Part throttle smoothed out, and this high idle came down about 200 rpm.

Pure mechanical. ?Not even a connector for the fuel consumption gauge
I pulled the AAR. ?The connections were corroded, so I cleaned and de-oxed. ?It is getting 12v to the connector. ?The valve itself tested to work properly with cooling and heating.
The surge is mostly gone now.
Checked the vacuum work I did a few years back. ?Deleted the EGR and the amplifier. ?I also deleted the air pump, and removed the blowoff valve. I found the diaphragm for the dizzy vacuum advance was leaking, so I replaced ?that.
I did leave the decel valve in place. ?However, I remove the barometric valve. ?
One stupid error from my previous work. ?I left the connection from the back of the throttle body to the thermal valve (EGR) switch connected, but didnt blank off the other port on the switch. ?Capped that this morning.
I also found the vacuum line from the dizzy I had hooked up to the front port on the throttle body. ?That connection is for the dizzy retard. ?So I ran the line for the advance to the back of TB where it should be, and capped the front port.
I have checked the vacuum hose connections for both sides of the AAR, and they are tight. ?Both vacuum and atmospheric lines for the check out for tightness.
I have also adjusted the throttle plate screw to time the injectors via the opening pop of the injectors.
Now, I have a warm idle of around 1100 that I cannot bring down with the idle adjustment screw on the front of the throttle body.
Normally, this would indicate a vacuum leak. ?But having gone over the entire vacuum system, I cannot see where it would be coming from.
Any suggestions?

I typically shorten the pipes and weld reducers on when installing an X pipe to ensure a better connection?
