Starter came in 2 days. ?Installed today and I am good to go.
The stupid thing is that I only have to pull it up my driveway and put it in storage.
Of course it couldnt have died next spring when I take the car out of storage

Why would you pick a 57 offset if they are custom built?

The lower harness was replaced a hear and a half ago before moving it out to the west coast.
on the issue of a relay. ?The first thing I checked was the CE panel. ?No relay, but a jumper strap in the #18 socket. This rather surprised me. ?I like the idea of a relay between the solenoid and the ignition switch. ?Was frankly shocked it didnt have one.

I have one on a parts car (1979 euro) if you want it. I¡¯m in portland. I¡¯m in the process of pulling the manual drivetrain pieces and could pull it for you. No idea of condition; you¡¯d want to clean and test, etc ?

Easier isn't?correct. You fix the 40yr old problem, not add a future headache to it with more wires, more connections, and MORE corrosion to have to bugger about in the future. We make fun of cars that show up for sale with easy fixes all the time..just bybass?it, just use some other hot wire...etc. :)

bench test the starter before you get a new one.?
The Old Buggers are very sensitive to current flow (and also
have a wire for cold start I think) that makes them prone to
not starting.?
A simple solution if the starter bench tests OK is to add a
relay in the system so the full 12V is applied directly to the
starter.
If that's your issue, search rennlist for the way to wire in
the relay....
