Actually both Devek and 928 Int'l rebuild their A/T tubes with the extra
(third) bearing. As far as my timing goes, Yeah I know.

I'm going to put the shark up in the air tonight and see what I can see.

Boy you sure know how to pick the timing for these things! The

aftermarket

tube that you refer to, is it the Devek piece? If I ever have to do a

torque

tube replacement, I would give serious consideration to the Devek part.

Hope you can get it back in working order before the drags.

I picked my car up afterhours, at around 7:55pm. As I pulled up, there

a salesman walking around my car, checking it out. As I stepped out of

wife's 4Runner, I told him I'd give him a good deal on the car. He said
"Oh no, the car is beautiful, but these old All Wheel Drive models are

very

difficult to sell."

I couldn't help but smile as I left "Old Shit for Brains" admiring my

car

and went in to pay the $38 diagnostic fee to have the dealer tell me
something I already knew.
It would have been nice if the service manager was upfront with me when

I

dropped off the car and basically told me "We have no intention on doing
the repair that you are asking an estimate for, unless your are stupid
enough to pay 4x the amount for parts, and double the time for labor".

I

would have gladly paid my $38 then and there for his honesty and not

wasted

everyone's time.

When I got back out to my shark, the salesman was still there. I fired

it

up, whirring sound and all. The salesman got that weird expression like

he

had just swallowed something distasteful while being constipated. I

rolled

down my window, and piped up to the salesman, "front wheel drive is out,
I'm gonna fix it myself", and pulled out.

I'm going to kick around where I go from here. The shark drags are on

the

25th, and I don't think I could pass tech with the whirring sound. I

guess

I could tell them I've got a gear drive or something. I really want to

do

the repair myself, but I don't think I could complete it in two weeks

time.

So, if I want to drag race, I need to take it up to Seattle and pay a
reasonable price for the repair. Decisions, decisions.

If I'm lucky, when I go to check the crank end play in the bell housing
this weekend, the sound may go away. Ray Wach had stated his shark made

a

similar noise until he released the static load at the flexplate. I'll
keep my fingers crossed.
