The recent coil discussions are interesting, I was just recently considering
coils and wondering if anyone had gone to an E coil? Seems like a nice
cheap easy upgrade type of item that one of the big 3 should be offering and
I was wondering why such a thing had not appeared yet?
By the way Ecoils are just coils that are built with an E shaped core
material that completely surrounds the wire of the coil as apposed to the
standard auto coil that is just a straight stick of core material with the
wire wrapped around it. The benefit is that an E shaped core (actually 8
shaped) uses a core to channel all the magnetic field and so it is more
efficient than the straight stick approach where the core only channels the
magnetic field through the inside of the coil, but the field must find its
own way through air from one end of the coil to the other. They are also
potted in epoxy/plastic instead of submerged in oil, now days plastics are
good enough insulators for the purpose where oil was the best solution in
the old days.
