I have Ludwig as Lewis Ludwig in my tree. My longer lines are the Kauffman Bossler and Schlappig ones. All I have for your

New info about 3 county boards
HI all,
So many things are changing with the messages groups this winter. I am sharing two new things I have discovered this week. Schuylkll message list was merged with Berks [email protected] . Cool since so many early people Were born in Berks and died in Schuylkill without moving. ? Also the PASomerset which was shut down is now up and running. [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> . I have found it interesting over the years to see many addresses of birth being listed as from Somerset, PA, and they were nowhere near there. Were or are our state records stored there and is that why people referred to residence as Somerset Co? Just curious. Connie |
Re: Surname Shoutout
Hello,
Johann Ludwig Seaman immigrated in 1748 to Berks County. Many records are found with him going by Ludwig or Lewis. He died in 1798 and is buried at St. Michael's Lutheran Church. I am trying to locate records on his son, Ludwig (Lewis) Seaman (Saman) b. 11 Sep 1764 Bern, Berks to Ludwig Seaman (Saman); bap. 23 Sep 1764 at Tulpehocken (Christ) Church. He was married twice: first to Susanna Emerich; second to Justina Schaeffer abt 1788 I find him in the 1820 census in Upper Bern, Berks County. In 1840 census, he is in Maiden Creek, Berks County. From there, he disappears. I am looking for his burial site or any will documents. Thanks, Mary from her Aerie in NY by the PA Border |
Re: Fisher, Thrush, Kirker, Crate
Thanks for the email!? It's been impossible to get over this wall to find anything about Joshua's family.? Thought I would put the info out there again once these two sites combined efforts.

I have your Aunt Martha Elizabeth Swarts in my family tree as married to my cousin Robert Lee Witherow. She is the only Swarts in my tree. Our Joshua F Fisher was born 10 May 1846. ? I did investigate a Benewell Fisher as possibly our Joshua's father: *Civil War Pension Index Cards for Benewell Fisher* Name: Benewell Fisher Rank: [BLANK] Company: F Regiment: 67 State: Pennsylvania Arm of Service: Infantry Date of Filing: State/Arm of Service: Company/Regiment: Publication Title: Organization Index to Pension Files of Veterans Who Served Between 1861 and 1900 NARA Publication Number: T289 Publisher: National Archives and Records Administration Civil War Pensions *United States Census, 1860 for Benewell Fisher* Name: Benewell Fisher Residence: , Jefferson, Pennsylvania Ward: Clover Township Age: 44 years Estimated Birth Year: 1816 Birthplace: Pennsylvania Gender: Male Page: 178 Family Number: 31 Film Number: 805118 DGS Number: 4289728 Image Number: 00096 NARA Number: M653 On 1/21/2020 4:19 PM, Connie Oberholser wrote:

Re: Fisher, Thrush, Kirker, Crate
Another thought.
Take a look at my Beneville Fisher family (son of John 1800-1853who is in Lebanon Co and could have moved to Schuylkill or migrated with them to Jefferson so they were perhaps perceived as from Schuylkill. It's the two surviving of Benevilles' who marry my Brosius and Witherow lines. Beneville Fisher 1815-1865 has 7 children. His youngest and oldest survive childhood. The middle five don't. They all are born between 1842-1853 and die 1852- 1860. Jacob Fisher 1842-1860 could be the father of Joshua FOR INSTANCE to make my point. I haven't taken time here to search out more notes and the rest of the family; but seems there is ROOM For Joshua to be son of Jacob 1842 if he marries young and dies soon after [ which did happen to my Boyers ] Connie Sholes Swarts Oberholser and Wenger Families this is at ancestry and Sholes Swrarts Oberholser and Wenger Branches and More world connect rootsweb which is free but this isn't updated to today |

I do have ONE name Enoch Dye Thompson who is ggreatgrandfather of Robert Lee Witherow, husband of my aunt Martha Elizabeth Swarts of Brookville. John Fisher 1800-1853 Amrstrong, in my tree married Barbara Errett d 1843. They started out in Phily and went to Lebanon and had two kids and then on to Rose Jefferson and then both die in Cowanshannock, Armstrong, Pennsylvania. But their kids are in Jefferson. Some marry into my Brosius. John has a Nancy Fisher to his second wife Rebecca Yarger. All my Thrush stay in Franklin, John Gayman Thrush and Catherine Sollenberger Desc. The 1940's into 50's there was wide spread deaths from something as I have more than one family of kids being sorted out to aunts and uncles. I would think from where I am sitting and all I have in Schuylkill and Jefferson that you are right on with Joshua being adopted by Crate. Sometimes the stories are kept or swept under the carpet as they somehow hope to protect someone. Sometimes it is the pain of the death of parents and so many at one time as it often was then. My Boyer line has such in the same Schuylkill area. The best in your searching. Connie Sholes Swarts Oberholser and Wenger Tree |

The only information that I have regarding other family members was a baptism at the First Reformed Church, Lancaster, PA for Margaret Shaffer born 16 December 1790, baptized 1 January 1791, parents Frederick & Margaret. John Nicholas Keiser Jr.
#surnameshoutout
I am still researching John Nicholas Keiser b. 1792 in Lower Macungie in Lehigh county. He was the illegit son of Johan Nicholas Keiser (b. 1766 in Macungie, Lehigh) and Magdalena Fetterman (b. 1771 in upper Milford, Lehigh). John Nic Jr. Died approx 1841-1843 in Berks County...probably in or near Richmond based on a tax assessment in 1841. No will, no death record found (yet, I hope). John Nic Jr. married Anna Maria/Mary Ebling (parents names unknown, and no marriage record found). Based on her tombstone, she was the wife of Johan Nicholas Keiser, and was born 1798. Maria Ebling Keiser is buried along side her daughter (Elizabeth Keiser Dietrich) and another son (Jacob Keiser) in Moselem Cemetery.
I've been able to identify and link seven children to these two parents and each other...including my 2x great grandfather, Joel Perry Keiser. Joel and his wife, Polly Adam (another mystery -- death record indicates she is the daughter of William Adam & Elizabeth Moyer (?) no records found as per usual) raised their children in and around Leesport and were members of Gernants. I have a DNA match to John Nicholas Keiser's father Peter so I believe I'm on the right track. If anyone else is researching the Keiser's, Adam(s), Hoch's, I'd love to collaborate. I've exhausted a lot of resources, but open to any and all ideas!! Thanks in advance, Jody Hansen Poway, CA p.s. A lot of research has been done on the Fetterman family, but has not been done on my ancestor Magdalena Fetterman...daughter of George. It's believed based on George's will that Magdalena either married a Billig or just had a son with a Billig. Both John Billig and John Nicholas Keiser Jr. (sons of Magdalena) are left money in George's will. |
Fisher, Thrush, Kirker, Crate
Looking for a birth record for our G Grandfather Joshua F Fisher b. 10 May 1846 Schuylkill Co. d. 29 Jan 1929
in Erie Co., PA m. 1st Rebecca Todd Thompson on 21 Aug 1871 Rebecca Todd b. 29 May 1854 d. 30 Jan 1892 Joshua F Fisher m. 2nd Elizabeth Bole on 6 Jun 1906 Children of Joshua and Rebecca: Mary Jane Fisher 1873-1886 never married, never had children (possibly named after his adopted mother Mary Jane) John Enoch Fisher 1876-1895 never married, never had children (possibly names after his adopted father John H Crate and his maternal grandfather Enoch Dye Thompson) William Kelso Fisher 1879-1956 never married, never had children (maybe named after his paternal grandfather???) Sarah Ann Fisher 1883-1919 m. William H Meredith (possibly names after her maternal grandmother) Samuel Alexander Fisher 1887-1920 never married, never had children (maybe named after his paternal grandfather???) Family history states Joshua F Fisher was adopted by a German family (possibly the Crate's) and that he was born in Schuylkill Co. The Rose Twp., Jefferson CO., PA 1860 census shows a Joshua Fisher living with John H Crate and his wife Mary Jane (Thrush)(daughter of Samuel Thrush and Sarah A Kirker)(Mary Jane aka Mary Jame and Mary Ann). The Rose Twp., Jefferson CO., PA 1870 census shows a Joshua Fisher living with John H Crate and his wife Barbara Ann Cyphert. I heard from a Crate researcher that John Henry Crate did not have any adopted children. Don't know where Joshua was in any 1850! Can't find him in any of the 1850 census lists from Jefferson Co or for Schuylkill Co. Possible family tragedy between 1846 and 1860, that left our Joshua orphaned. I suspect they maybe could be related through the Thrush family, but can't make the connection. Our Joshua named his first born girl Mary Jane likely after Mary Jane Thrush (1st wife of John Crate). She must have had a significant impact on him, either by being a relative of just being motherly to him in her short time with him. He named his first born son John (maybe after John Henry Crate) Enoch (middle name after his wife's father). His third born a son was named William Kelso (Kelso is a common name in his wife's family (Rebecca Todd Thompson)). His fourth born a daughter born, our Grandmother was named Sarah Ann (Sarah was his wife's mothers name). His fifth a son was named Samuel Alexander (might be a clue in this naming). From the census records it appears he took in two Weaver children who seem to be related to hissecond wife Barbara Ann Cyphert (cousins). Joshua F Fisher enlisted in the Civil War in Sep 6 1864 and was discharged in Jun 2 1865 A lot of the Thrush's were members of the Lutheran Church in Newville. One Thursh married to a Nancy Fisher specifically catches my eye. That Nancy Fisher is the daughter of John FIsher and Mary Alleman. Among the family trees there is mention of "Old Dutch Church" and "Old Dutch Graveyard" and Grace Reformed Church. While this is all speculation and in the Thrush's are mostly in Cumberland Co., it's a bunny trail I at least must explore. |

Our Smothers Tribe DNA project definitely has confirmed by 6-7 other men taken the Y male 67 test to confirm this line to William Smither died Berks Co PA I have all his info inc/marr lic, 10 kids & families, will, etc....... Surname got changed allot over time [at lest 4 main spellings] as sure many do realize ever seen any of my posts/or cuzzies on the old Berks Co Pa rootsweb mail list. Many of them changed due to marr to German wives spoke no English, spelled it like it sounded from Smathers>Schmetter>Smeddar, etc. Once my 4x went to Texas after Pa>TN.KY, it was his son, my 3x John Bate Smeathers Jr changed surname to Smothers. Have all his info too down to my dec'd parents...so am a 3rd gen Texan. Living now in Eastern WA since 1972.....long story won't go into now. Still very much into research of our family, interested always any tidbit of info might help. Any questions, do write to me personally. I nor my cuz have NO tree anywhere on web, some others do, but please know most are NOT correct! Please don't copy their info. Ask me for what need to know. I do have correct info on 4x.
