Re: Roll Call?
开云体育In my early year of research I received so much information from this group and website that made large inroads into my family history.?? To get the group going again, I present this information on my Berks Co familyMy line originated with Paul Barlet who came to Berks in 1740 with his brother Conrad Their brother Han Wolf came earlier.? Paul married Catharine Werth My line comes from his son Sebastian Barlet who married Anna Maria Machmer; through Sebastian's son Joshua who married Maria Schaver The primary document for Sebastian's family comes from the over 155 pages of his son's Daniel Barlet's estate documentation.? These papers provide information on the family into the 1890's. Joshua's son Ephraim is my 3rd great grand father.? He was married to Susanna Anna Matternus.? While they had two children, only Henry Franklin Barlett survived into adulthood. Ephraim 2nd wife was Catharine Lewellen.? They are thought to have been married in the early 1870.? They had three children Isaac, David, and Jacob Barlet.? David died in infancy.?? Ephraim and Catharine died in 1873 and 1874 respectively and are buried in the Ivy Hill cemetery in Philadelphia.?? Isaac and Jacob were brought to Wells county Indiana by their Uncle Joseph Lewellen, Catharine brother.? Jacob married Sophia Frances Sutton and became my great grandparents.? The Barlet and Lewellen family are proven by documentation and DNA Connections. In addition to the families named there are tenative connection to the Miller family, Becker family, and the Kline family and several other mentioned in Daniel Barlet's probate records. I would be willing to share my documents and data to help others in their research, or to accept information to expand my knowledge of my families. Re: Roll Call?
开云体育Fisher, Thrush, Kirker, Crate I am looking for a lead on my G Grandfather Joshua F Fisher b. 10 May 1846 ??Schuylkill Co.?? d. 29 Jan 1929 in Erie Co., PA.? Possible family tragedy between 1846 and 1860, that left our Joshua orphaned. SO, Looking for a birth record for our G Grandfather Joshua F Fisher b. 10 May 1846 Schuylkill Co. d. 29 Jan 1929 in Erie Co., PA m. 1st Rebecca Todd Thompson on 21 Aug 1871 Rebecca Todd b. 29 May 1854 d. 30 Jan 1892 Joshua F Fisher m. 2nd Elizabeth Bole on 6 Jun 1906 Children of Joshua and Rebecca: Mary Jane Fisher 1873-1886 never married, never had children (possibly named after his adopted mother Mary Jane) John Enoch Fisher 1876-1895 never married, never had children (possibly names after his adopted father John H Crate and his maternal grandfather Enoch Dye Thompson) William Kelso Fisher 1879-1956 never married, never had children (maybe named after his paternal grandfather???) Sarah Ann Fisher 1883-1919 m. William H Meredith (possibly names after her maternal grandmother) Samuel Alexander Fisher 1887-1920 never married, never had children (maybe named after his paternal grandfather???) Family history states Joshua F Fisher was adopted by a German family (possibly the Crate's) and that he was born in Schuylkill Co. The Rose Twp., Jefferson CO., PA 1860 census shows a Joshua Fisher living with John H Crate and his wife Mary Jane (Thrush)(daughter of Samuel Thrush and Sarah A Kirker)(Mary Jane aka Mary Jame and Mary Ann). The Rose Twp., Jefferson CO., PA 1870 census shows a Joshua Fisher living with John H Crate and his wife Barbara Ann Cyphert. I heard from a Crate researcher that John Henry Crate did not have any adopted children. Don't know where Joshua was in any 1850! Can't find him in any of the 1850 census lists from Jefferson Co or for Schuylkill Co. Possible family tragedy between 1846 and 1860, that left our Joshua orphaned. I suspect they maybe could be related through the Thrush family, but can't make the connection. Our Joshua named his first born girl Mary Jane likely after Mary Jane Thrush (1st wife of John Crate). She must have had a significant impact on him, either by being a relative of just being motherly to him in her short time with him. He named his first born son John (maybe after John Henry Crate) Enoch (middle name after his wife's father). His third born a son was named William Kelso (Kelso is a common name in his wife's family (Rebecca Todd Thompson)). His fourth born a daughter born, our Grandmother was named Sarah Ann (Sarah was his wife's mothers name). His fifth a son was named Samuel Alexander (might be a clue in this naming). >From the census records it appears he took in two Weaver children who seem to be related to his second wife Barbara Ann Cyphert (cousins). Joshua F Fisher enlisted in the Civil War in Sep 6 1864 and was discharged in Jun 2 1865 A lot of the Thrush's were members of the Lutheran Church in Newville. One Thursh married to a Nancy Fisher specifically catches my eye. That Nancy Fisher is the daughter of John FIsher and Mary Alleman. Among the family trees there is mention of "Old Dutch Church" and "Old Dutch Graveyard" and Grace Reformed Church. While this is all speculation and in the Thrush's are mostly in Cumberland Co., it's a bunny trail I at least must explore. On 4/27/2022 9:19 AM, kathydeiss via

GRUBB - MILLARD Family photograph
I've recovered an old photograph of George GRUBB which was taken at the Isaac S. LACKMAN Studio in Pottstown, PA. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's with George likely about 7 years old at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding George and his family: ? George W. GRUBB was b. 1870 in Berks County, PA to parents William Carson GRUBB (1824-1905) and Mary Ann MILLARD (1828-1889).? George was one of 10 children born to this couple including Curtis M.; Sarah Jane; May Jane; Elizabeth A.; Allen James; Clara Amanda; Elva or Elvia M.; William M.; Bloomfield F.; George W.; and Onslow Varnell GRUBB, all born between 1854 and 1871.? George married Annie L. BENNEY (1871-1957) on 24 Oct 1891 in Norristown or Pottstown, PA and he died Nov 1950 and is buried in the Laureldale Cemetery in Tuckerton, PA. ? I am hoping to get this precious old photograph back to family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family or know someone who might be. ? Thanks, Shelley |

BEESON - BURCHILL Family Photograph
I've recovered an old photograph identified as Mattie BEESON BURCHILL'S baby boy. The photograph was taken at the Bretz Studio in Pottsville, PA when the baby was less than one year old. I'm not sure which of her sons this is but I was able to gather the following information regarding Mattie and her family: ? Martha “Mattie” H. BEESON was b. 23 Apr 1859 in Ohio to parents Edward Jackson BEESON (1817-1893) and Martha W. or H. CLINE or KLINE (1826-1872).? Mattie had two siblings, Laura E. BEESON (b. 1847) and Isaac “Ike” Newton BEESON (1848-1870).? Mattie married Alfred Edward BURCHILL (1856-1933) in 1879 in Pennsylvania and they had 7 children including Clinton; Laura Evelyn; Charles E.; Elizabeth; Florence H.; Alene; and Baby Boy BURCHILL all born between 1880 and 1900.? Mattie had three boys, though the last boy appears to have died at birth about 1900, so I believe the photograph is either of Clinton b. 1880, or Charles b. 1884. ? Mattie died 23 Feb 1939 in Williamsport, PA and she is buried in the Wildwood Cemetery in Williamsport, PA. ? I am hoping to return the photograph to family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family or know someone who might be. ? Thanks, Shelley |

Hi Betty,
I am currently working on updating my Yorgey charts.? I will send you copies when completed.? Then you can look them over & let me know if you see any error or discrepancies.??
I do have a question for you.? You wrote the article below for the BCAGP in 2014.? My question is - what documentation proves that Henry Yorgey Sr. was a Rev War soldier?? I could not find him in the DAR or SAR patriot list.??
?
Revolutionary War Veterans in the Fritz Burial Ground ? by Betty J. Burdan? ? Nine years prior to the Revolutionary War, the 1767 tax list for Douglass Township, Berks County counted 46 heads of house-holds and 4 single men. While this list provides the numbers of livestock, it does not count the number of household members, leaving us with no population total. By 1790 the number of households had increased to 79, with a total population of 441. On average this would be a gain of 1 and 1/2 households per year, so that by 1776 there may have been approximately 59 heads of households at the start of the Revolutionary War. ? Ten of these Revolutionary War Soldiers and 1 Revolutionary Patriot are buried at the Fritz Burial Ground in Douglass Town-ship, or about 1 out of every 6 households. To date an additional 31 men from Douglass were found to also have served in the Revolutionary War. Given the length of the war and the total number served, may translate into nearly 1 member of each household going off to fight for our independence. ? Eight of those buried at the Fritz are recognized by bronze plaques placed by the Berks County Chapter of the DAR in 1972, through the efforts of Marion (Nagel) Rhoads. Two more, George Brunner and Johannes Reifschneider were recognized and documented after 1972. The latter on September 2, 2010, when Dale Derr, director of the Berks County Department of Veteran Affairs, personally placed a flag by his tombstone. ? Joachim Nagle, the Patriot, born in 1706, was well into his 70s during the war, yet he took it upon himself to supply grain and food to the troops at Valley Forge. There is evidence Joachim had some sort of memorial placed in front of his tombstone, but it is long worn away. We can only guess it may have recognized his service to his country. ? These Douglass Township soldiers, for the most part, served in the 5th Battalion, 6th Company from 1777 to 1779 and from 1781 to 1782 they served in the 3rd Battalion, 6th Company. Samuel Sands was Captain to both units. Those buried at the Fritz are: ? (1) Bernhart Honeller/Hornetter (b. Oct 17, 1755 d. Oct 12, 1823) Pvt 4th Btn. Philadelphia County ? (2) Johann Georg Gresch (b. Jan 10, 1798 d. Feb 12, 1806) Pvt 5th Btn, Berks County ? (3) Johann Christian Jorge/Yorgey (b.1764 d Nov. 17, 1834) Pvt 5th Btn, Berks County ? (4) Bernard Fegley (b. March 26, 1757 d. March 7, 1844) Pvt 5th Btn, Berks County ? (5) Jacob Heppenhaemer (b. Dec 17, 1762 d. March 9, 1832). Pvt 5th Btn, Berks County ? (6) John M. Na-gel (b.1756 d.1834) Pvt 5th Btn, Berks County ? (7) Johannes Keihly (b. Dec 5, 1742 d. Jan 22, 1822) Pvt 5th Btn, Berks County ? (8) Johannes Al-bright (b. Nov 7, 1756 d. July 19, 1823 ) 1st CL Pvt Lancaster County ? (9) Joachim Na-gel (b. Feb 21, 1706 d. July 26, 1795) Patriot* ? (10) George Brunner, Berks Co. (b. Apr 23, 1755 d. Dec 6, 1845) Militia, 6th Co., 5th Btn, Berks County (11) Johannes Reifschneider (b. 10 May 1749 d. 11 Apr 1836 age 86-11-1) 3rd Class, 7th Company, 4th Battalion, Phila County Militia Douglass Twp: Page 796 Vol. 1 6 Series PA Archives. ? ? Besides those buried at the Fritz other Douglass members of these two companies have been identified as: Samuel Avenshein, Henry Buck, William Brunner, Henry Bunn, Herman Bunn, Jacob Bunn, George Eagle, Henry Eagle, John H. Eagle, David Heppenehimer, Valentine Fisher, John Fritz, Martin Fritz , John Hatfield, Henry Houck, Henry Keely, Jacob Keely, John Keely, Daniel Levengood, Philip Levengood, Peter Meffert, Peter Moser, Peter Nagel, David Potts, William Potts, John Romich, John Sands, Joseph Sands, Samuel Sands, Henry Yorge and Henry Yorge Sr. ? Douglass Township, was not so different from every other town-ship, village or neighborhood in Berks. These brave men stepped up to the plate to serve their country, just as men and women have continued to do to the present. As Memorial Day approaches we would do well, to pause and thank them all for the freedoms we enjoy.? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> on behalf of Betty J Burdan <bjburdan@...>
