I looked through my notes and through my copy of "Lawrence Legacy" by Marion C. Bale and Diane M. Lawrence Krumrine. I could not find any mention of your John Lorentz. Ron "Doris Matz- via Groups.Io" wrote: Ron Davis |
Berks family
I have a number of families with Berks connections. Here is one that I have worked on with land records (patents and surveys) and probates without success: REDENBAUGH or perhaps Radebach. I can't connect Henry Redenbaugh or his wife Margaret with families.
Henry Redenbaugh was born 1734 (Berks or Germany?) and married Margaret (perhaps Barnhart?). They raised a large family in the area. Some children's births were recorded at Trinity Lutheran in Reading, Berks. Somewhere I have a record of a purchase of land in Northumberland Co (formerly Berks?) by Henry and Margaret and growing family. They improved the property probably with the aid of their growing boys and, when ready to migrate to SW OH, sold it back to the original owner for a profit. I believe this financed the purchase of land for their large family in the Hamilton Co OH area. Henry and Margaret settled near Abraham VOORHEES about 1795 and reportedly influenced him to name the community Reading. Their graves, both dying around 1828, are located in Reading, a suburb of Cincinnati. Children settled in Jefferson, Montgomery, and Fountain counties in IN, Shelby and Miami Cos OH, and some remained in the Hamilton Co OH area. Son Solomon died as a young adult. John, Frederick (married Anna Margaret HENNE/HEINE), Ann, Andreas, Margaret, Barbara, Philip, and Adam. Any advice or help appreciated by a large group of family researchers in this line. Hi everyone!
While people are joining us, I thought a good way to get things rolling here is what I like to call a #SurnameShoutOut . This works just like the old Roll Call. Post a surname with a first name along with all of the vital data that you do have. This way if any of us know, we can do the lookups. Be sure to mention where your elusive ancestor is from. I'm setting this up as a hashtag so this will remain as an ongoing thread. Have fun with this and let's shatter some brick walls! Happy hunting! Rick B Admin |
Re: Tobias, from Bern County to Schuylkill County
Yes, Thomas Jefferson Tobias, b. 10 Oct 1846, Schuylkill County, PA, died 18 Jan 1938, Washington, CD. He married about 1867, Elizabeth Ann ¡°Lizzie¡± Wood from St. Clair, Schuylkill County, PA. The family I research descends from his son Dr. Henry Wood Tobias, b. 8 May 1876, Donaldson, Schuylkill County, PA, died 6 Oct 1968, Ashton, MD.
Catherine Hoffa - I have seen some interesting newspaper accounts of her long life. Trish |
Re: Tobias, from Bern County to Schuylkill County
I have a Thomas Jefferson Tobias (born around 1846), son of Daniel. Daniel married Catherine Hoffa. Catherine was born around 1797. (Catherine was my ggg aunt.) I have info on Catherine¡¯s ancestors but nothing more on Daniel¡¯s.

Tobias, from Bern County to Schuylkill County
The family I am researching in PA is Tobias, originally settled in Bern County, PA. Hans Jost > Ludwig > John > Daniel > Thomas Jefferson.
Daniel an innkeeper, operated The Black Horse Hotel at Fox Valley, Reilly Twsp, Schuylkil Co., PA; was postmaster at Swatara (1848). Would like to learn more about this inn. Trish |
