? A Royal Australian Air Force AP-3C Orion takes off during Exercise Bersama Shield 16 at Royal Malaysian Air Force Base Butterworth, Malaysia. While aircraft and ships conducted exercises in the South China Sea, a team of people worked behind the scenes back at Royal Malaysian Air Force Base Butterworth to help make Exercise Bersama Shield 16 a success. Australian Defence Force and locally-employed civilian support personnel, including cooks, clerks, refuellers, planners, technicians, and maintainers, worked to support those deployed on the exercise. Exercise Bersama Shield 16 is an annual Five Power Defence Arrangements training exercise that aims to strengthen the working relationships between the FPDA nations ¨C Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
