Re: NEW webinar on maximizing hearing and vision for uncontrolled crossings!
开云体育Before I head to bed for a very packed day tomorrow, had to respond to this email and congratulate you in completing such a daunting and tireless project recruiting volunteers to assist as “students”. As one who assisted last summer, I learned a ton; especially since so much has changed in the teaching of O&M. My last lesson was over 20+ years ago and it was an eye opener to me of all the changes! ?Hip! Hip! Hurray!Jen.? On Mar 17, 2025, at 9:04?PM, Dona Sauerburger via groups.io <dona@...> wrote:

HI everyone!? We just completed a webinar on a topic I think has never been done before -- maximizing your skills for listening and looking for crossing streets with no traffic control.
?
It is Part 3 of a 3-part series of webinars on preparing students for uncontrolled crossings, providing the very latest information for uncontrolled crossings (we no longer use TMAD!), and in each of them, the participants -- O&Ms like yourself -- try the skills and add their insights and ideas (and sometimes push back on material that is new to them!).
?
The webinars are free, offering a total of more than 8 hours of ACVREP credit.? The home page is at

Enjoy!

Re: Penn Del AER Conference
Hi John,
Right now we don’t have the session schedule set in stone. I believe that is coming out in early March. MaryNelle McLennan is in charge of the speakers and she could give you a better answer on the exact date. As always, we have spectacular speakers lined up.
I can tell you, as the exhibitor chair, that we currently have 20 exhibitors including two new companies. Make sure you come visit us after lunch on Thursday for the dedicated exhibitor time.?

开云体育Thanks so much Dona, as usual, you’re a great source of info.?My husband has CBS and we’ve found that it can grow worse with stress. He also has PTSD and TBI, a regular acronym soup. He refuses to tell even our GP, who is generally very curious about such things and not judgmental.?

Re: Specialists
开云体育Andy, is there Braille on both sides of the pages?? If yes, it’d be tricky to erase a song on one side without also erasing the song on the other side. ? If the Braille is on one side of all the pages, you can take the book to the edge of a table or a hard surface, so to place only that page on it.? you can use almost any hard smooth object to “rub out” the dots.? you can use your fingers and fingernails to do that, too. ? If there’s Braille on both sides—it’s interpoint—this would call for surgery.? There’s an erasing “pencil” that comes with some slate and stylus kits.? The tip of that can be used to press down one specific dot at a time.? no matter how carefully this is done, it will weaken some dots on the other side of the page.? Another way is to use your finger nails to “scratch” the dots on one side, without the page being pressed against anything or not hard.? you’re scratching those dots in the air, as it were, trying to slowly flatten them with a minimum of damage to the dots on the other side. ? Just so you have realistic expectations, it’s impossible to erase Braille dots completely.? They will still be there, no matter how flattened.? I can still read the dots, and they’re probably still visible.? ? So if those songs are clues to a crime you wish to hide, I regret to inform you it’s not possible to erase those clues completely by rubbing out the dots. ? Hope this helps! ? John ?? ? ? ? ? Re: FanTAStic webinar on Charles Bonnet Syndrome
开云体育Thank you, Angela! ?I’m pretty sure that about a third of the people we work with have it, they just don’t talk about it. Just yesterday, I was taking a friend / former client shopping, she has macular degeneration, and said she saw a mouse running across the floor. I was distracted and didn’t say anything, but later she said oh, those are floaters. So I told her that many people have these hallucinations and wondered if she has any. “Of course,” she said.? I’ve known her for several years, and she has never mentioned it. — Dona ————————— Dona Sauerburger, COMS Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the blind www.sauerburger.org On Feb 22, 2025, at 10:24?AM, Angela Tabb via groups.io <angela.tabb@...> wrote:
