Re: AMDs on stairs?

thank you Jack! ?That sounds perfect. ?I¡¯ll blind-copy the student - we just met and came up with a way that works for her, but she wasn¡¯t using the railing. ?This looks like a great technique that allows her to do that.

Haha- no, I didn¡¯t design the AMD, I think that was Lynn Geautraux, but I have used it many times.

Speaking of design, one of the most crucial measurements for the AMD is the width -the wheels need to be far enough apart that the feet walk behind it, not outside, as explained at??under ¡°wheel position.¡± ?Ambutech apparently stopped offering variations in width, theirs is a few inches too narrow for my student, so I¡¯m asking them if they can customize it and if so, if there is an extra charge.

And speaking of Lynn Geauteaux, I just learned this morning that his beloved Angel died 6 weeks ago. ?She was such a beautiful soul, I¡¯m heartbroken to hear it.

?Oh, thank you Candace, YES I¡¯m so glad you reached out again! ?I¡¯ll try to find the student who was doing the awesome study on cane tips and get you connected.

Meanwhile I¡¯m so glad I¡¯ll see you at SOMA. ?I¡¯m going to write you again when I get time next week about the width of your AMDs.

Thanks again for the prompt!

I thought that the center handle on the Ambutech AMD was designed with stairs in mind.? I have always used it very much like a cane ¨C going up stairs, holding the AMD by the central handle, amd against the riser of the next or 2nd?step, wait for it to swing free.? On the way down, when it drops off the first step, anchor it against the first riser, check position from side to side, check depth of steps, take rail in one hand and hold the AMD by the center handle with the AMD pointing down the stairs hovering over or glancing off of the 2nd?step ahead.? Wait for it to bottom out at the bottom or the landing.??

Didn't you design the Ambutech AMD in the first place?? ?

Hi everyone! ?Is there a good way to navigate stairs when using an Alternative Mobility Device? ?I am introducing one to a young woman and want to suggest reliable techniques.

Thanks!
