Re: Neighborhood happy hour!

Hi neighbors,
A reminder that I am hosting a HH tomorrow, Sun 9/11?@ 5pm?for our lovely block on our front patio here at 5675 Oak Grove Ave. Please bring whatever drinks/snacks you'd like to eat and some to share, and a camping chair if you'd like to sit. If we have too many to fit on our patio, we will migrate to the driveway.
See you soon :)

Dear lovely neighbors,
A few of us were chatting after our recent block party. There are many new faces, and we've all been stuck inside for 2 years. Having neighbor-friends is a great gift, so Melissa Mednick and I thought it might be nice to have a monthly or every-other-month BYOB happy hour. To kick things off, I will host, as I did at the beginning of the pandemic. (What nice medicine that was!)

Our first HH will be on my front patio at 5675 Oak Grove Ave on Sunday 9/11?@ 5pm. Please put it on your calendars. All are welcome. If it gets too big, we may have to migrate to our driveway, which is no problem. Please bring whatever drinks/snacks you'd like to eat and some to share. This first event will also double as a book-party (!): I published during the pandemic and never properly celebrated. For those of you who are new to the 'hood, I am a pain science expert and nerd - so if you have or treat chronic pain, or know someone who does, I will have book copies for you.

I will plan to host a few of these to?get us going, but if you would like to donate your yard or patio to a future HH, we are gratefully accepting volunteers. No work is needed to host beyond showing up.
Looking forward to meeting/seeing all of you!
Warmly,
Rachel Zoffness

Thanks - but Rob and Brian (my husband) confirmed this is not the same guy. The Ped Way guy was lying down in Ped Way in different clothes than what our images show shortly afterwards.

Beth at 5800 Chabot and I both spoke to the officers, but we didn't know about this earlier incident involving Rebecca. The officers gave us an incident number of: LOP220826000295. He said we can call the city of Oakland at 510-891-6028 to get information on filing a restraining order. The homeless individual's name is apparently Damon Page, date of birth: Feb. 2, 1971 - you'll need the incident number and that information to identify him for the restraining order. Once an order has been entered, the police can remove him if he returns.

Rebecca,

What a frightening experience. I believe this is actually different guy, an older, or older looking, sort of disabled and guy who has been wandering around the neighborhood for some time now. I think he used to shuffle around with a garbage bag over his back, wandering down people's driveways and looking for stuff on their porches. More recently I've seen him pushing his bag around in a cart. He came down our driveway at a few minutes before he visited your house.?

I haven't seen the other guy around in about a week but his cart and stuff seem to have been abandoned on Miles so we might need to brace ourselves for his return when he's done doing whatever he's been doing the last week.

Mona across the street is hosting a mayoral candidate Sunday afternoon and I'm assuming homeless services is going to be a hot topic. My other question will be why does Berkeley get to have nice parks when Oakland? does not?

Thanks All.?

Hi Rachel,

The officers I spoke?with this?morning strongly encouraged filing a restraining order under the incident report. They said that would be the only way they can move him away when he comes back. Currently, he left a shopping cart on Pedestrian Way along Beth's side yard but I didn't see him when I walked by 5 minutes ago.

He got out of his deathbed with a baseball bat to run him off. (dog didn’t even notice him) Got pics from our nest camera. I don’t think he took anything but it’s very troubling.?image0.pngimage1.png

Damon Page on Pedestrian Way

He first came to PedWay before the Fourth of July weeekd and was encouraged to leave. I too had done what Kelly did later, call 311 and find humanitarian means to persuade him not to spread his possessions all over and be visibly intoxicated. We will try to pursue the same means but please do not avoid PedWay if you normally take it as that adds to the problem.
