FEB6 Drill - All hands on deck
35
Hi Everyone, Good news! External communications support and permissions for our drill have been secured. So, we are good to go. At this point, we have 13 volunteers in OC. I will need to know now if anybody is NOT available to participate in our drill scheduled for February 6 at 10:00AM for one hour (FEB6 Drill). I need everyone to respond to this email if you are IN along with resources you will have at your disposal (bicycle, binoculars, bandages, etc.). That way, I can designate roles with the resources we have. Now is the time to act and we need you. For those who have done this before, it should be a cake walk for you and we might need you to mentor/lead new volunteers. If this is your first time and you are nervous/anxious/confused/lost/nowhere near ready, let me know. Let your neighbors know; some might want to join. FYI, COVID-19 safety protocols will be in effect. If you plan to be mobile for the drill, you will need to wear eye protection, mask, and gloves. If you are CERT-certified, practice prepping your gear. All must make sure your walkie-talkie radios (WTs) are fully charged and properly configured. I suggest that we all participate in the weekly Net on the 1/20, 1/27, and 2/3. -- Dennis Tiu KN6IPE CERT Neighborhood Lead

Invitation to Ham Radio SIMPLEX Exercise
4
73, Dennis Tiu KN6IPE ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Coastside CERT <coastsidecert@...> Date: Sun, Feb 7, 2021, 8:50 AM Subject: Invitation to Ham Radio SIMPLEX Exercise To: Coastside CERT <coastsidecert@...> Calling all Coastside CERT Amateur Radio Operators! Half Moon Bay Amateur Radio Club Coastside SIMPLEX Exercise The purpose of this exercise is to map out the radio frequencies that we will need to use in the event that the repeaters used on the Coastside are not available. In the event of loss of power the repeaters will eventually shut down. Without the repeaters, we will need to have a map of SIMPLEX frequencies to allow radio communication from and between neighborhoods to the DOC. Additionally, hams in some neighborhoods will need to know these SIMPLEX frequencies to communicate within their neighborhoods. Depending on the number of participants, the exercise will likely take only an hour, or two. This is an excellent opportunity for CERT ham operators to get some practice on the air and do some good work. I strongly encourage each CERT ham to participate in this exercise if at all possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Thank you. I look forward to hearing you on the 20th. Jeffrey Goshorn, KN6EPA Coastside CERT Radio Officer KN6EPA@... 2021 Simplex Exercise Intro Note. The Half Moon Bay HAM Club will conduct a SIMPLEX communication exercise at 10:00 on February 20th. All Coastside HAM operators located between the Tunnels down to Verde Road are invited to join. Club membership is not required to participate in this exercise. The goal is to map out a Simplex connection network we can use to maintain communications should the repeaters go down in some future event. We will use this Registration form to work up a roster of participating stations. With that information we can supply a log sheet for scoring signal quality between all participating stations. The exercise does require radio operation on both the UHF and VHF frequency bands. Details and directions will be sent to you when your registration is received. Please click on the link below to be transferred to the registration web site. Best Regards, Lee Copeland, AJ6BN Emergency Coordinator, HMB Amateur Radio Club. 2021 HMB Coastside Simplex Exercise RegistrationUse this form to register for the February 20th SIMPLEX Exercise. Results from this event will help create a SIMPLEX Communications Network Chart. This will be distributed to everyone. It will help maintain HAM communications along the Coastside should our Repeaters not be available.FILL OUT FORM Create your own Google Form -- Dennis Tiu KN6IPE CERT Neighborhood Lead

Mutual Aid CERT Request for Coastside CERTs
Please note, Coastside CERT has not been officially activated, yet. However, they South Coast CERT has and is in need of assistance particularly with volunteers who are Ham CERTs. If you are interested in helping, this happens right now: Greetings Coastside CERTs who attended the Mudslide & Debris Flow Webinar (+ a few more): As you have seen from several sources this evening, communities to the south of us in the CZU Burn Scar Area are receiving evacuation warnings and evacuation notices in advance of serious rain and wind events anticipated to begin tomorrow evening. South Coast CERT (Branch 3), South Skyline CERT (Branch 4), and Kings Mountain CERT were activated this evening to assist with notifying residents in affected areas to evacuate tomorrow. This is an example of the notice they received: CERT Activation South Coast CERTS are asked to report at 9:30 am on Tuesday, Feb 26 to Pescadero High School to notify residents at approximately 500 addresses in rural areas around Pescadero of an evacuation order. This must be done before rains begin Tuesday night as there is a high danger of very hazardous debris flow and mudslides in areas affected by the CZU fires. CERTS should wear rain gear, rain boots, and masks to be COVID-safe. Those who have 4-wheel drive vehicles should bring them. While Coastside CERTs are not officially activated, if you would like to participate on a mutual aid basis, you are welcome to do so. Please follow the instructions above and report to Pescadero High School at 9:30 tomorrow, 1/26, at 9:30 AM to be sworn in and be given a list of residences to notify. If you do decide to participate, please text me at 310-429-9197 on your way to Pescadero and on the way home for accountability purposes - Chief Cosgrave and I need to know who is joining this mission and ensure you have returned home safely afterward. Check out the Midland WR120. Amazon sells it here: https://smile.amazon.com/Midland-WR120B-WR120EZ-Certified-Trilingual/dp/B00176T9OY/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=midland+wr120&qid=1610138676&sr=8-3 5. Are your fire extinguishers in good working order? Do you need to recharge yours? Would you like to purchase extinguishers for you home? Contact your local expert at Bubba's Fire Extinguisher Service 650.712-8260. 6. The new year brought some change for some that prevents volunteers from participating at our weekly WT Net. If this sounds like you, let me know. Maybe, we can move our Net to a more convenient night. 7. We will be conducting our first quarterly drill. I'm shooting for the 1st weekend of February on 2/6/21. Can everyone make it? If so, I will begin planning for it. Please monitor our groups.io for updates. -- Dennis Tiu KN6IPE CERT Neighborhood Lead
