Dennis is correct, we will have to look into the best location for an emergency medical center.? I agree with an earlier comment that the glass roof over the Colony Club Community Center is a non-starter.

I got a "loud and clear" report from 5 checkpoints at the outskirts of OC. So, we're good.

As far as using the golf course as a helipad, that will have to be addressed by Richard and the BoD as well as using the Clubhouse, Hole #1, or Tee #2 for an emergency medical center.

Re: Net Control

Just in case:

1.? A "Net" is a time of day and the radio frequency where the group of radio operators meet.? Our Net is at 7:30PM every Monday on CH2.

2.? "Traffic" means messages to be sent via radio.

Thanks, Trish!

Net Control

Who gets on the air first determines who will take the role of Net Control.

Net Control can voluntarily relinquish the position to another radio operator when either a more experienced radio operator arrives or a new operator volunteers to relieve the previous Net Control operator.? As Net Control, you quickly overcome mic fright and you get a chance to coordinate multiple radio operators in an event.? With that said, I encourage everyone to take the Net as Net Control as often as you can.? To make things simple, I have uploaded the script I follow during our Nets here:

/g/OCEAN/files/2020-OCEAN-script.pdf

If you would like to take the Net, please volunteer during the net announcement usually done 5 minutes before the Net.

The Great Shakeout - Sat, 10/10/2020 #cal-notice

The Great Shakeout

Saturday, 10 October 2020
10:00am to 12:00pm
(GMT-07:00) America/Los Angeles

Where:
Ocean Colony

Organizer:
kn6ipe@...

Description:
This is a exercise hosted by Fire Chief Cosgrave.? It involves all the neighborhoods from Montara to Canada Cove.? A ham radio net will be held to test the Coastside comms.? This is where WE come in.? We will establish OCEAN comms as soon as I get back.? Please tune-in on your radio to our assigned FRS frequency (Channel 9) at 10:00AM and wait for instructions.?

If we are to have an event when all of us can see the full potential of OCEAN, this is it!? Your participation is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.?

You know the drill.? So, let's get this done!? If you don't, join anyway!? That will make this exercise even more realistic.??

Additional information will be provided here at the OCEAN groups.io as they come.? We will be conducting our own event assessment during the next 15 minutes right after the exercise and during our next OCEAN meeting.

Re: The Great Shakeout

Hi everyone,

Attached is the official schedule for the Great Shakeout.? Assume that the earthquake will only last about a minute.? I suggest we turn on our WTs at 10:15am.? I will have less than 5 minutes to perform a roll call AND set up a station at the Rally Point.? That should be enough time for everyone to assess yourselves.? We will resume our drill at around 10:20.

Dennis

Yes, they are fictitious.? Yes, please fill them out with real addresses when you can.? I left this vague so that I don't know the details of your actual report on 10/10.? There will be times when I will get those addresses wrong and you will have to correct me:

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the delay.

I have finished scripts for each of us for 10/10.? They are in the Files/Great Shakeout Scripts.
Please download your script and read it well.? If you have any questions/comments/concerns, email me immediately.? These, like movie scripts, are guidelines.? House addresses, street names, etc. need to be updated to suit your environment.? This also means that Net Control will not know the exact traffic you will present on the day of the exercise.?

Be creative.? Some might take longer to assess themselves.? Others, might be delayed by people talking to them along the way.? So, span out your scenarios at odd times (e.g. Scene 1 @ 10:25AM, Scene 1 @ 10:39AM, and so on).

Take notes... lots of notes.
What did you request that did not get addressed?
What went wrong?
How could it have been prevented?
What was unrealistic?? How?
What will you eat for lunch?

73,

Dennis
