Calling all Coastside CERT Amateur Radio Operators!
Half Moon Bay Amateur Radio Club Coastside SIMPLEX Exercise
The purpose of this exercise is to map out the radio frequencies that we will need to use in the event that the repeaters used on the Coastside are not available. In the event of loss of power the repeaters will eventually shut down.? Without the repeaters, we will need to have a map of SIMPLEX frequencies to allow radio communication from and between neighborhoods to the DOC.? Additionally, hams in some neighborhoods will need to know these SIMPLEX frequencies to communicate within their neighborhoods.? Depending on the number of participants, the exercise will likely take only an hour, or two.? This is an excellent opportunity for CERT ham operators to get some practice on the air and do some good work.
I strongly encourage each CERT ham to participate in this exercise if at all possible.? If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you.? I look forward to hearing you on the 20th.

The Half Moon Bay HAM Club will conduct a SIMPLEX communication exercise at 10:00 on February 20th. All Coastside HAM operators located between the Tunnels down to Verde Road are invited to join. Club membership is not required to participate in this exercise.
The goal is to map out a Simplex connection network we can use to maintain communications should the repeaters go down in some future event.
We will use this Registration form to work up a roster of participating stations. With that information we can supply a log sheet for scoring signal quality between all participating stations.
The exercise does require radio operation on both the UHF and VHF frequency bands. Details and directions will be sent to you when your registration is received.

Re: FEB6 Drill - All hands on deck
Tomorrow's the big day!? I hope everyone is as excited about it as I am.? Here are some thoughts before the Big Day: 1.? You have all received your general scripts for tomorrow's drill.? Please review them carefully and email me or post here any questions.? So far, only EJ has asked questions.? Now's the time to ask. 2.? Certified-CERTs - you will be acting as leads to others.? You know what you will be expected to do.? So, please take out your CERT Field Operations Guide and review our assigned tasks before tomorrow.? It might also be good to bring the Field Operations Guide with you just in case. 3.? WT Ops and first-time volunteers - relax and go with the flow.? Don't worry, we will be available to assist you.? It's okay to be confused.? It's okay to be nervous.? That's why we conduct drills. 4.? USE YOUR WTs!? For the most part, we will be conducting this drill "virtually" due to COVID limitations. The radios are not just used to convey information between you and Net Control.? So, talk to each other. 5.? Report actual addresses.? Make up names for victims (e.g. Donald and Daisy Duck along with their nephews Huey, Louie, and Dewy).?? 6.? Remember your new zones (i.e. use the OCEPT sub-neighborhood definitions).? Part of this exercise is to test the effectivity of the new sub-neighborhoods.? During the last drill, most of you covered your territories within 15 minutes!? Here are the sub-neighborhoods:
- WingedFoot2101:? Burning Tree / Winged Foot: 89 homes
- Pembroke10 and RiverOaks20: Greenbrier / River Oak / Pembroke / Inverness / Ashdown: 87 homes
- nobody assigned:? Cypress Point / Spyglass: 73 homes
- nobody assigned:? Fairway / Pinehurst: 75 homes
- Muirfield2:? Turnberry / Muirfield / Merion / Birkdale: 87 homes
- Carnoustie127:? Carnoustie / Bayhill Rd / Bayhill Ct: 90 homes
- Eagle368 and Eagle353: Eagle Trace / Bayhill Pl: 71 homes
Side note: we don't seem to have coverage for St. Andrews.
Remember to improvise, adapt, and overcome. Good luck, everyone!

Re: FEB6 Drill - All hands on deck
That's good.? The location is central,? and in an actual emergency would be large enough to accommodate a number of casualties.? It's on a major roadway loop that would accomodate the largest pieces of fire apparatus, and an evac copter could even land nearby.? I'll bet Marie, who lives next door, would even open her doors to us in a real emergency... Sent from my phone

Personally, I wil be setting up a station at the Rally Point (beside the 2nd hole tee box).? I will be handing out scripts to everyone by the weekend.? This is a historical event.? This will be the first ever CERT exercise conducted by Ocean Colony.? So, let's make this count.? We are still good to go for FEB6!
Some ground rules: 1.? If you're mobile, wear your mask. 2.? Volunteers will not "enter" a structure. 3.? CERTs will be busier than before. 4.? We will not be able to cover ALL of OC during the exercise. 5.? If you have a ham radio, you are welcome to listen to the chatter between OC and DOC.? But, please do not transmit. 6.? If you have a go-bag or emergency gear, prepare them.? But, you don't have to bring your gear with you during the exercise. 7.? If you have any questions, please let me know before the exercise.? 8.? If you know of other residents who wish to participate, please let me know. 9.? All residents who possess an FRS radio can tune in on CH2 and LISTEN during the exercise. 10.? Do not use your cell phones during the exercise.? We will only be using our WTs.
Stand by for more.
