Cornwall sky clock not looking good for the eclispe
Eastern Townships looking great. We're going to Magog. It's further, but only 3 hours-ish... Darryl On Sat, Apr 6, 2024, 12:26?p.m. ALbert <alboodie@...> wrote:

<> Pick your spot: quebec, north of Peterborough, or Michigan. But that map is forecasting 55hrs into the future. Later forecasts will be more reliable. They get updated at 1pm,1am, 6am and 6pm. Don't reuse that link in this post. Goto a clear sky chart and click on the 15h monday block in the cloud road. -ad ps. The clearing, north of Peterborogh, shown in the above link, is sucker hole-like. I wouldn't trust it. On Sat, Apr 6, 2024 at 12:26?PM ALbert <alboodie@...> wrote:

This does not bode well... On Sat, Apr 6, 2024, 12:38?PM Attilla Danko <danko@...> wrote: This is the current cloud forecast for eclipse time: |
This does not bode well...That probablity map is an average of 20 years of past cloud forecasts for the first 10 days of April. The current cloud forecast clearly shows that monday will not be average. For example. The map of averages, shows 23% prob for some places in Newfoundland. But the current cloud forecast says parts of Newfoundland will be clear. My Take: <> was useful a week ago for people planning to drive to texas. Now, the current cloud forecast is the one to use. On monday morning: use real-time satellite images. -ad |
Not 100% positive, but I think the path of totality is way south of Peterborough. Those in the Peterborough Astronomy Association were looking at Belleville or Kingston... On Sat, 6 Apr 2024 at 12:38, Attilla Danko <danko@...> wrote: This is the current cloud forecast for eclipse time: |
I thought it was using the current sky clock data. Ok. I'll have to do a deeper dive.? On Sat, Apr 6, 2024, 1:09?PM Attilla Danko <danko@...> wrote: > This does not bode well... |

开云体育I have been using this as a good estimate. You get to choose your forecast model, and differentiate between lower, middle and high cloudsBest one to look at so far that I have found. InQ On 2024-04-06 12:26 p.m., ALbert wrote:

Things are looking grim except for the Eastern Townships in Quebec.? I figure a 2 hour 36 min drive to a spot between Granby and Bromont QC is the closest from Ottawa.? I determined this bouncing around with Attilla's fabulous clear sky clock 9which?used to govern my life from the early 2000's to 2007).? ? Two questions:? obviously?asking if there is a closer destination?? and will the sky clock accept long and lat? Cheers, Albert. On Sat, Apr 6, 2024 at 6:02?PM InQ <inq@...> wrote:

I think just across the border in the US (Malone, perhaps Burlington if needed) might be an alternative for the following reason: Avoid huge crowds descending from Montreal and N America. And in particular the return home towards Montreal area. Marco

Hey Marco, Funny you mentioned Malone as my original plan was to go there and fly fish hoping I catch a monster trout when it goes dark fooling them to come out from hiding. Looks like a thin layer of clouds there and Cornwall.? Cheers, Albert On Sun, Apr 7, 2024, 11:41?AM Marco Vanderkooij <marcovanderkooij@...> wrote: Hi,? |

Attilla: ... surely the gods of the knights who say “Ni” will favor us semi-locally with good weather ?The gods guarantee clear skies for the eclipse ... somehere along the eclipse track. But it might be Arkansas. :) :( So far the cloud/transparency forecast for southern quebec is looking pretty good. But check the forecasts. They're updated every 6 hours. Next update 18:00 to to 18:30 tonight. -ad |
Mother Earth is such a tease! Today's weather tomorrow would be great!?
I was initially planning to watch totality from a dead-end street near a truck weigh station on the 401 in Gananoque, a short drive from home with an easy in-and-out, avoiding popular spots in town and major highways.? That plan is no longer viable. My Plan B since Thursday has been: go to Granby, QC and onward to Magog or Sherbrooke, if need be. I'm worried I am not alone.? If everyone in Ontario and Northern NY is heading to the Eastern Townships tomorrow, life could get very interesting very quickly -- especially since there are only a few bridges crossing the St. Lawrence, and there are not a lot of roads on the south shore of Quebec.? I'm prepping. I'll depart with a full tank of gas (600 km of reach), but I'm bringing 20 extra litres (+300 km of reach) to avoid gas stations. I'm bringing lunch and dinner to avoid restaurants and fast-food outlets.? If things go south after that, I figure I can consume spouse for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Tuesday. (Perhaps there'll be leftovers on Wednesday. I could make soup for Thursday.? Don't judge me: she has the same plan.) I'm brining 4 litres of water (2 l/person).? If I were a real prepper, I would also bring at least 2 l/person of empty bottles. I'm bringing sleeping bags, in case we have to sleep in the car. I have my GPS, but I've downloaded offline copies of maps of the South Shore onto my phone.? I'm bringing cash. If all goes well, I'll need none of that stuff, and will be home Monday night. |
