Southern Sky
开云体育Hi Folks, If you glance at the southern sky now (9:30 PM Monday) you will see that the internet was correct. Mars is as big as the moon. It is very orange, at least here in North Augusta. Have a great day. Bob |
Re: it's planet season again.
Thanks for the alert, Attilla!? I was hoping for some clear skies last night as well but get too tired and went to sleep. I remember the good times we had at Chapters showing off the planets to the interested public. Jim

I had an excellent view of Jupiter last night. At least 7 bands. And that was when Jupiter was only 16 degrees up and seen through tree branches.. Saturn was good too. Good views start around 1am. Get yer planet-bounced photons while the seeing is good. -ad |
Re: Some photos of this morning's eclipse
Here is the back story - On June 10, 2021 there was an Annular Solar Eclipse in northern Ontario, northern Quebec and part of Nunavut territory. With the assistance of a friend, 8 of us were given special permission to set up on the Chisasibi First Nation territory called "High Grounds" (we were 4 km from the village and this village was closed to non-residents) to see and photograph this eclipse. I finally sorted out my photos of the eclipse, some of them were enhanced for better viewing as we could only see the second half due to heavy fog from Hudson and James Bays.

Re: Some photos of this morning's eclipse
I took lots of photos through the scope when there were no clouds, but there were no sunspots visible on the disk so those images were boring.? That, and the seeing here was so-so, so the images weren't crisp enough to reveal lunar topography on the limb.? I only processed one of those images and culled the rest.? Like you, I like the image with the clouds

Re: Annular Solar Eclipse
Hey Michael, Thanks so much for the viewing this morning.? I? was in too much of a hurry to meet others for a bike ride but in the end I could have spend another 10 mins with you.? I forgot to look for Frank.? Was he there? cheers, Albert. Anyone else interested?? Best -- Michael |

Regarding
location, I checked out the suggestion for Parking lot #1??
and the site lines look fine.? The area is a bit narrow, but there should be enough space if there are only a few of us to maintain adequate physical distances.? Best -- Michael |
Re: Annular Solar Eclipse
开云体育I think I would like to join you. Do you have a specific location at the
Experimental Farm in mind?

Hi
Again -- FYI, I too am very concerned about COVID.? Therefore, it will be
essential for anyone who comes always to maintain at least a 2 meter physical
distance from anyone else.? If more than one person brings a telescope, we
should set up our scopes at least 4 meters apart.? Since we will be
outside, I do not think a mask is essential.? FYI, part of my life is as a
prof in the uOttawa School of Epidemiology and Public Health.? Best --
Michael .
