Re: Cornwall sky clock not looking good for the eclispe
I thought it was using the current sky clock data. Ok. I'll have to do a deeper dive.? On Sat, Apr 6, 2024, 1:09?PM Attilla Danko <danko@...> wrote: > This does not bode well... |
Re: Cornwall sky clock not looking good for the eclispe
Not 100% positive, but I think the path of totality is way south of Peterborough. Those in the Peterborough Astronomy Association were looking at Belleville or Kingston... On Sat, 6 Apr 2024 at 12:38, Attilla Danko <danko@...> wrote: This is the current cloud forecast for eclipse time: |
Re: Cornwall sky clock not looking good for the eclispe
This does not bode well...That probablity map is an average of 20 years of past cloud forecasts for the first 10 days of April. The current cloud forecast clearly shows that monday will not be average. For example. The map of averages, shows 23% prob for some places in Newfoundland. But the current cloud forecast says parts of Newfoundland will be clear. My Take: <> was useful a week ago for people planning to drive to texas. Now, the current cloud forecast is the one to use. On monday morning: use real-time satellite images. -ad |

<> Pick your spot: quebec, north of Peterborough, or Michigan. But that map is forecasting 55hrs into the future. Later forecasts will be more reliable. They get updated at 1pm,1am, 6am and 6pm. Don't reuse that link in this post. Goto a clear sky chart and click on the 15h monday block in the cloud road. -ad ps. The clearing, north of Peterborogh, shown in the above link, is sucker hole-like. I wouldn't trust it. On Sat, Apr 6, 2024 at 12:26?PM ALbert <alboodie@...> wrote:

Eastern Townships looking great. We're going to Magog. It's further, but only 3 hours-ish... Darryl On Sat, Apr 6, 2024, 12:26?p.m. ALbert <alboodie@...> wrote:

Re: Totality and unfiltered binos
I’m going 100% Digital, I have 2:47 seconds so I’ll have a 2:30 countdown to give myself 15second to recap the optics. I’ll be live streaming and having family down so kudos to those who will travel for clearest of skies; I’ll be step up and stationary. Hopefully clear skies, Graeme Hay Photographer / Cinematography / Astroimaging EmberSkyMedia On Fri, Apr 5, 2024 at 2:38?PM Attilla Danko <danko@...> wrote: > So, I will be deciding where to go just a few hours before the eclipse |

USNO's eclipse timings are the gold standard:
<> I've captured USNO eclipse timings for all clear sky charts on the eclipse path. Look in the "nifty links" section of a clear sky chart's web page. where are you going to view the eclipse? The current CMC cloud forecast of the eclipse hour shows much of Ontario's weather will be dogdy: <> So, I will be deciding where to go just a few hours before the eclipse based on satellite imagry of clouds (Non of this silly forecast == guessing stuff.) <> (which, btw is linked from each clear sky chart in the "Near-Realtime Satellite Imagry of Clouds" link in "nifty links") -ad On Fri, Apr 5, 2024 at 1:38?PM ALbert <alboodie@...> wrote:

Re: Totality and unfiltered binos
Hey Attilla, Is there a good website where??I can plug in the?coordinates? Also...where are you going to view the eclipse?? I'll be at Challies Pond just NE of Morrisburg. I'll combine my love for astronomy and fishing all in one go! cheers, Albert. On Fri, Apr 5, 2024 at 1:25?PM Attilla Danko <danko@...> wrote: Yes. peeks out from behing the moon at the end of totality. I plan to set a timer to fire 10 second before the end of totality to give me time to look away. On Fri, Apr 5, 2024 at 1:21?PM ALbert <alboodie@...> wrote:

Re: tse 2024 weather link
I've allso complied similar stats (in my case, its the probability of
skies 20%-cloud-covered or clearer) here: <> which is why my numbers are different. I suggest people also read Jan Anderson (famous weather-for-eclipses guy) page: <> I'd use all climate-data maps only for rough planning. I think the key is to be prepared to drive a few hours, just before the eclipse, to a clear-sky spot shown on a satellite image. (This forecasting stuff is just a guess.)The satellite image I like is this one for the Ontario area: <> because it's the only cloud-image that also shows fog. In practise, i've seen the "day night micro combo image" show more fine cloud detail that other satellite images. There are such maps covering USA/Canada in pieces. I've linked one of those maps, along with a circle marking the exact spot, from each clear sky chart that is along the path of totality. -ad On Fri, Mar 29, 2024 at 11:13?AM rpdubois via groups.io <rpdubois@...> wrote:

request for a presentation to kids from a teacher
A teacher has emailed me asking about:
--------------------------- slighty edited -------------------------------- my Grade 5-6 students will be exploring and inquiring about the intricacies of the universe and matter. ... I am actively seeking engaging learning opportunities for them beyond the classroom. I was wondering if your group would be hosting events, lessons or other educational initiatives that my students could partake in to further enrich and expand their exploration of space. For instance, would they be able to attend a gathering, or would someone be interested in coming to teach them about astronomy? It would be a group of 10 students, myself, mostly likely another teacher. ------------------------- /slighty edited ---------------------- I've put her in touch with the Ottawa RASC, which in the past, has presented to kids. I've also directed her to the Carp star party page. But if there are OAFs with the prepared material and skill to present to kids, let me know and I will put you in contact with the teacher. clear skies. -attilla danko. |
