Re: Yesterday Short Solar Session

ROB ROBOTHAM

Ummm, just in a little hole-in-the-wall astronomy store in Vancouver
(there seem to be a few in the Vancouver area, I must have hit the
little one) that was within walking distance of my sister-in-laws (ok,
20 minutes FAST walk) so I went to browse. I was actually looking for
eyepieces (specifically Tele View, but all they had was a 55 mm
plossel), but didn't find anything that grabbed me, and I spotted the
film so I got it (rather than waste all that walking).

Actually as I recall, I had told Chris that I would like a solar filter
for the telescope as a possible Xmas present. So I got in trouble when
I bought it.

For a more useful answer: I think some people on the other OA** mailing
list mentioned (around Xmas) that they had bought some of the film from
Focus - maybe cut up rather than a full 8.5x11 sheet (which is what I
bought, so I have left over that I can do something with). I won't make
a filter for my finder because the rings on my mount are much better for
aligning on the sun (line up the shadow of the first ring on the second
ring and hocus presto sun in the centre of the eyepeice!). Otherwise
I'm sure lots of the places you can mail order from would carry it.

What a great idea!! I think I will try and get some Baader film and
make filters for my binos!! Where did you get your piece?
