Fw: URGENT: TODAY: Measure X - Budget Hearing Advocacy
Hi everyone, I am sending this again so you won't have to look for it. The most important time to advocate for Older Adults education at the Board of Supervisors budget hearing is TODAY, Tuesday, April 23 around mid-day. The more people the supervisors hear from, the more likely they are to support funding for the West Contra Costa Adult Education Older Adults program through Measure X.? Please zoom in if you can!? Information on how to join the meeting is below. During public comment, which looks like it will be around mid-day tomorrow, Tuesday, April 23, we should mention these programs and point out that they might have to close if a source of funding is not found.? While we work to expand programs for vulnerable populations in Contra Costa County, we certainly don't want to lose the ones we have!?? Kristen ----- Forwarded Message -----

Hi everyone, Below is an excerpt from the West Contra Costa Adult Education principal's weekly newsletter.? First, I would like to thank the principal for getting this information to all adult school teachers; it's great to have his support for the Older Adults program. Please see below for an important opportunity to advocate for funding for the WCCAE Older Adults program through Contra Costa County Measure X funds. Kristen ADVOCATING FOR OLDER ADULTS The most important upcoming opportunity for advocating for funding for our Older Adult Program is at the Board of Supervisors upcoming budget hearings this Monday and Tuesday.? This is where the Board of Supervisors will decide on how to allocate the one-time projected surplus in Measure X funds totaling $28 million.? They will be deciding on many other things related to the County¡¯s FY24-25 budget, but the use of Measure X funds for Older Adults is our main concern. Budget Hearings: Monday, 4/22 and Tuesday, 4/23 ¨C 9am-5pm In-person: 1025 Escobar Street, Martinez Zoom:? Phone: 888-278-0254 access code 843298 ?(Measure X Community Advisory Board) |

COABE Journal and AAACE Conference
is a national Adult Ed organization. Statewide orgs such as CCAE are affiliated with it. COABE just finished out their national conference.? COABE does great work is and is very well run.
They have a journal that comes out four times a year and each issue has a theme. The newest theme is Advocacy.? Marina Kravtsova and I co-wrote an article about Advocacy and English Learner Adult Ed students.? I didn't think to alert you all to the call for articles - as of course, someone from OAEF could have submitted an article on advocacy and Older Adults Adult Ed. The article process is - in my opinion - pretty trying - but if you succeed at it - you can reach a national audience. Sharing all this with you so it's on your radar. If you see a future theme that you think connects with OAEF goals, I encourage you to submit a proposal for an article. I'm happy to support but definitely do NOT volunteer to co-write such an article (just as an fyi, lol). FYI,s another national Adult Ed organization -- and more academic in orientation. I presented at an AAACE Conference in 2023 - and there was another presentation that focused on Older Adults.? The next AAACE Conference will be in Reno and I believe you can apply to present both in person and remotely. Cynthia Cynthia |
