开云体育Hello Roy ? No I’m not on Flickr, I’m not sure if I should be?? Is it free? ? ? I’m not at all sure about ephotozine, I’ve not long joined!? The only thing I can think of is to add the URL of my Profile to your favourites.? Maybe easier if I join Flickr ??? ? What can you and the group tell me about Flickr, please? ? Many thanks Bob ? ? Re: Lightroom
Both shots were handheld, it was the D7200 but the exif data was not on the image, is this what happens when you use tubes? I had only just got the tubes so I was trying to see what they would do. 1 question, when you play with an image in lightroom does it save all of the changes and overwrite the image or does it save a copy of the changed image?

Re: A small selection of photo's
开云体育Hello Zane ? Thank you too for your most generous, kind comments.? The Slaters Bridge was a colour shot, converted to B&W and then “tweeked” in Silver Efex Pro based on one of their templates.? ? Thanks too for your kind comments about my wildlife photos. ? My kind regards Bob / RobO ? PS -?? Incidentally, the old “free” version of Silver Efex Pro is still available ~ I downloaded it whilst I could!?? I think I found the link by searching in something like – Here’s some comment & link from the web page: “If you’re curious, the original Nik Collection that was made free by Google in 2016 still works. You can grab it on Mac and Windows from??at archive.org.” ? ? ? ? ? Sent from for Windows ? From: Zane Healy

Re: Lightroom
开云体育With this first shot, I’d try seeing what “Auto” does for it. ?Then maybe play with “Clarity", and the “Highlights” and “Shadows” sliders. ?My best advice, start playing, see what changes you like. For the second shot, was this handheld or on a tripod? ?With the insanely shallow DOF you’re playing with, good focus is hard. ?Also, what was your f-stop. ?This image feels like you’re likely pushing the limits of the lens, or shooting hand-held. Re: Tripods and/or attachments for Macro work
Thanks Zane. In researching more and after my recent experience with the macro tubes, I believe I need to invest in a focusing rail as my next step. I’m just amazed at the super shallow depth of field with the 50mm at f/16 with the 36mm tube.? Jon On Mon, Apr 3, 2023 at 13:13 Zane Healy <healyzh@...> wrote:

Re: Tripods and/or attachments for Macro work
开云体育I have way more tripods than any sane person should. ?There are reasons for what I have. ?When I was first getting serious with a D300, I picked up the Gitzo G2220 cheap, as it was a display unit (I was looking at Manfrotto tripods when my wife pointed it out). ?It made a world of difference. ?Everything else has been purchased used, for a fraction of their value, except the Bogen which was given to me.Gitzo G2220 — This one can’t handle a heavy camera/lens, as the legs start to spread, but it’s great for Macro work. ?This was my first real tripod (as opposed to using a vintage travel tripod from my Mom’s Yashica 44LM). The legs can be put at basically any angle. Gitzo G340 — This is now my “general use” tripod, it’s a pain to pack, but I really love this tripod, it can handle just about anything I shoot with. Gitzo G410 — For 11x14 Camera Gitzo G1155T — For my Leica M10P A little Bogen tripod for my Rolleiflex. Majestic — No clue on the model, the guy I deal with the most at my favorite local camera store, happened to see me walking out of a competitors store with it, and commented that it could be used to hold up a small car. ?I’m not convinced he was joking. It has a Majestic head on it, with a plate for Large Format cameras. ?It can easily handle my 11x14 camera. ?I’ve taken it out in the field with my 8x10, and that requires a baby stroller to move it and the camera. ?The 11x14 can be moved easily in a wagon with the Gitzo G410. ? https://flic.kr/p/Sb2JxV If I’m using Tubes, I’m going to be using a focusing rail. Another option I have, is to use my Nikon D800 on a 4x5 monorail camera, with G-Claron lenses. ?This is the option I’m likely to go for extreme Macro’s. ?This is actually why I’ve kept the Majestic tripod. ?It’s a good base for this type of photography. Re: Many Thanks to all of you
开云体育Hello Roy ? I’m really pleased to hear that, you’re learning, I think if we’re honest with ourselves, we all learn something along the way, from each other even if it’s a small thing, maybe making us query about the way we do something or why we do something.? I know I’ve picked up a few tips along the way from this group and it’s so good to see how the group has burst into life recently – long may it continue. ? Take care & I wish you lots of happy and successful shooting, as I do for all our group members. ? Cheers Bob ....? or RobO for ID ? ~ or it may have to be Bob1, 2, 3, 4 etc. ? ? ? ? Re: Lightroom
开云体育My workflow is borderline psychotic. ?I wish that was a joke.1. Import photos into Lightroom Catalog (2010 Mac Pro) 2. Import photos from Lightroom Catalog into Capture One (2021 MacBook Pro) 3. Review, select and adjust photos in Capture One (2021 MacBook Pro) a. If needed edit in Photoshop (1) If needed process in Silver Efex Pro (2) If needed process in Exposure x7 b. If needed process in Exposure x7 4. Import edited photos into Lightroom Catalog (2010 Mac Pro) 5. Export photos (either from Lightroom or Capture One, depending on how I’m using the photos). For a year now, I’ve been planning to get a good disk storage unit hooked up to the MacBook Pro and move the data over. ?For now I’m mainly using the Mac Pro as a NAS device, and for running software that won’t work on the MacBook Pro. For Lightroom specifically, I do my organization as Jon has described. ?Prior to upgrading to the MacBook, and upgrading Capture One, I’d been doing most of my work in Lightroom. Zane

Re: A small selection of photo's
开云体育Okay, now you have my interest. ?What are you trying to achieve? ?I’m not in the habit of running B&W Negatives through B&W plugins. ?Having said that, I have experimented a little using Silver Efex 2 with negatives, this has been to have images that feel consistent with my digital photos for my “Coastal Defense Forts” project. ?I’ve found the results to be surprisingly good. ?Part of the reason for this testing is that I want to get a couple images in the future that will most likely be shot on either 8x10 or 11x14 film, and then drum scanned, as the goal is to print them crazy huge.4x5 - Ilford FP5+ 125 |
