Random problem with lens
After yesterday's post, I thought maybe someone can shad a light on this... I have a D810 and a Tamron SP 24-70 F2.8 Di VC USD G2 lens. The lens seems problematic. When it works it is tag sharp... I can shoot a dozen or so picks. And without ANY change in settings (on camera, lens, or flash), I cannot focus, I can press the exposure button on my D810. But nothing happens. Again, it is a very random thing. Is that a known problem for this lens? I have cleaned the contacts, and checked all!!! possible settings but to no avail. Anyone can share some thoughts, please. Thank you. Update: I do not have this problem with all my D-lenses, if that matters. Louis Weyl ??? ??????? ?????????, ????? ???? ????? 0545764945 | lbweyl@... www.facebook.com/PhotojenicsPhotography

Nikon D850 or D500 12
Hello All I recently asked a question which was D7200 v D500, I own a D7200 but was wondering about getting a D500 instead as the button layout is the same as my D850, However it was recently put to me as why don't I just get another D850 and put it into DX crop factor, what does anyone feel about this statement? -- Kind Regards Roy

Variable Neutral Density filters 7
Summertime in Texas can be brutal for many reasons. Shooting macro during the cloudless days in direct sun is one such challenge. I have found even with the ISO set as low as I can go without hitting Lo1 at shutter speeds I can sync the flash with highlights being blown out. I¡¯m not wanting the crank the aperture down too much to avoid diffraction. It¡¯s worse on my Olympus when I do focus bracketing when my max allowed shutter speed with the flash is 1/50 during focus bracketing. Not as much of an issue to a degree with the D810 or Z6II with the 105mm macro for single shots but it still is an issue especially if I need flash to freeze motion or fill shadows. I can gain a stop with a CPL but not sure if that is always the best solution. Thus I am contemplating variable neutral density filters to give me more control in the field. I know that many of them introduce a cross pattern when turned up to maximum or near max values. I don¡¯t want to be swapping filters in the field to get things closer plus having to carry a small portfolio of filters, well at least for now. What are your experiences with VND filters and any recommendations? Jon

D500 v D7200 5
Hello All I have been offered a D500, I already have a D7200 but hardly use it, the main reason for this is because it is a completely different button layout to my D850, the D500 has the same button layout as the D850, is the D500 any better than the D7200 apart from the pro build? -- Kind Regards Roy

Zane - Thanks for the update on changes in your focus related to the Civil War reenactments. Your new emphasis on teaching the history of photography during the Civil War sounds both enjoyable and challenging. Please keep us posted on your progress. /Another Bob

A Beacon in the Night 2
A 15 minute exposure taken with my Nikon D800 and Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E lens. This took a lot of effort to focus, as we didn¡¯t get in until after dark, and several hours work in post-processing, resulting in a very clean image. https://www.flickr.com/photos/zanes-photography/53557727472/in/dateposted/ Zane

Reviews of the Nikon Z6, Z7 vs. Canon EOS R6 Mkii ? 17
Anyone care to comment on the "distance" between the Nikon Z6 , Z7 mirrorless ... compared to the amazing reviews on the Canon EOS R6 mkii ? Reviewers seem to be indicating that Nikon is * falling way behind * on the mirrorless body functions and sensor characteristics. " World's best camera as of Dec. 2023 " https://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/r6-ii.htm https://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/comparisons/nikon-vs-canon-vs-sony-full-frame.htm https://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/comparisons/2023-05-menus.htm What is happening to Nikon quality and spearheading ? and, sadly, if Nikon is this far behind, then Canon may the best option now that lenses from many Mfrs can sit on other's bodies with cheap adapters ?

Portrait lens 6
Hello all, I can ask this question on Facebook groups, but I do not know the people there who will answer me, soo... I have the Nikkor 85 1.8 (I think D-version) which I use for all my portraits. I am very happy with it as it is incredibly sharp. The downside is I need to have some distance from my subject. So, I wonder would a 105mm or a 135 mm be an addition, and if yes, why? What are the pros and what are the cons? Nikkor 105mm lenses
My daughter has a Senior project that she needs photos for, as a result, I¡¯ve been digging through my archives. One thought is, what lens besides maybe the 50mm itself has as many wonderful and different lenses as the 105mm? I have 3 different Nikkor 105mm lenses, and still lust after the 105mm f/1.4E (I just ran across shots from when I rented it). I have the Ai-S 1.8, 2.8D Macro and 2.8G VR Macro. Another thought, you might be surprised what happens when you update some of your old photos to the current process version in Lightroom. Zane

FLICKR Having Issues 2
People post that they use Flickr to host their photos. Went in this evening and could not find one of my accounts. Finally located it. But all Albums showed, however photos were not available. At first I thought I was hacked. But, looking into the HELP area, many people were posting about the same issue seconds and minutes before I looked. So something is going on. Let's see how long they take to straighten this out. John Henning

XMP files
What ho one and all, Was downloading some images from my memory card via a card reader in the computer, and decided to have a look at the card with File Explorer. Surprised to find that along with the images that I had shot, there where around 200 , old xmp files of various dates over the past six months, the RAW files of which, have been deleted long algo. I formatted the card in the camera and checked again, but the XMP files where still there. I have now deleted them with Fie Explorer but don't understand why they have not been removed when I deleted images from the card. Grateful of some insight. Thanks and toodle pip Rex

NX Studio and Lightroom
I was looking at NX studio as I recently heard it can show you the point of focus on images. Okay it doesn¡¯t seem to provide that with non Nikon lenses, so far. But I have noticed that I like its noise reduction of raw images a bit better than lightroom, Do others use NX studio along with lightroom? If so, how do you integrate it into your workflow? It appears to me that you have to export it from NX as a jpeg or TIFF before importing into lightroom. Do you loose much as far as flexibility or control in lightroom at that point? Regards, Jon
