Re: [Nikon_D1] re: D 1 camera

Gordon Lee

Hi. Yamil ,I am from Canada,. The D1 Xis selling for $7900 Canadian. The D1
H is abou t a $1000 less.I thought about buying the D1 X ,but I find 90% of
the image I sell are 8X10s . The D1X is worth buying only if you are
shooting a lot of portrait and selling images that are bigger than 24X30
and up .

I Have been using the D 1 for 7 months . I purchase the first one in Nov
2000 and the second one in Feb
2001. In that 7 months period, I have shot just over 100,000 ! exposure
with both camera combine. Quaility
of the photos are awesome. When you shoot at tiff format, image is good
enough to blow up toat least
20"x24". I've also blown photos up to 30"x 40"! . I shoot a lot of
sports . I set the Iso setting to 1600 80%
of the time and you barely sea any pixels at 11X14. Quality of photo is
excellent when you calibrate your view
screan to your printer. I will be purchasing another camera in
Sept.2001 (D 1 H) because I need the rapid
fire .

Good opinion, thanks!! I haven't made up my mind yet.

Sports and other press photographers. Personally I wouldn't want my
backup to be a step down in quality or I would find myself uninclined
to use it. I wouldn't mind if the backup didn't have frills, but if the
basic image was of a lesser quality, I don't think I would like that
dynamic.
I'm getting my D1x today supposedly, so I'm speaking without
actually having used the camera yet. But my experience in the past 20
years of prof. photography is that image quality is not to be
compromised unless there is a very good reason.

Who cares. I've got an F100 I haven't used in over a year. It's impossible to debate this subject with people who use antique film cameras. They probably still have turntables.

Hi

I just wondered if anyone in the group would like to respond to this.
I am not a pro so I would like to see some sort of "pro" response to
the message located at:

www.charm.net/~mchaney/wwwboard3/messages/870.html

it reads as follows:

What's the news on 'D1 street' about a lack of lustre in digital pics
when compared to silver based images?
Our Photographer and one Graphic designer are of the opinion that the
D1 sucks!
Any thoughts out there?

My own opinion is that they are out to lunch on this one.

There's nothing any of us can do to change these people's minds, nothing!!

IMHO the D1X is one of the best Digital imagers out there (in single
pass)!!! The images I'm getting out of this body are out of this world.

maybe these people haven't even tried the D1X, & they have reconceived
ideas in their minds & that's good for them!! These people are happy in
their ignorance!!

Last week, after using my D1X for the first time, one of my Lexar 128MB
8X cards crapped out. I promptly called the Lexar Customer Support line,
I was asked to send the card back for a Check-Up. Well, guess what,
they're just replacing my card with a new one, & Fedexing it back to me.
WOW!!:-) I guess they don't waste too much time trying to repair these!!
Thanks Lexar:-)

Re: [Nikon_D1] Welcome Hoodman Inc!!

Thanks for the warm welcome! To find out what a Hoodman is... just go to
www.HoodmanUSA.com. lol. A Hoodcap is very similar to the Black plastic caps
(and the new semi-optic milky white caps, for the Nikon D-1X) that come
stock on the Nikon D-1's. The Hoodcap is an Optically Clear version with a
scratch resistant coating. Just snap it on your D-1 (or D-1X) and it will
protect your screen while allowing you to easily see the LCD Screen.
If you try to use the LCD Screen in
bright light, or outdoors, you may want to get a D-1 Hood
which is a soft rubber Hood (that
goes over the ears of the Hoodcap) its soft bellows makes it so, when moving
your eye up to the viewfinder, the Hood just collapses in and then springs
back into shape when you move your head back, once again shading the screen.
The D-1 Hood is made of a hypo allergenic material so even those with
allergies or sensitive skin will not have a reaction to it.
