Re: Zane's workflow

Hi, Zane.

As long as your workflow is only "borderline,"? I think you're in good company.

I'm not nearly as organized / structured as you are. The vast majority of my files are on a very aging Dell XPS desktop with additional drives added internally and in a Sabrent "toaster." A year or so ago, I bought an M1 MacBook Pro, pretty much entry level, to replace an older Dell XPS laptop as a traveler. In principal, all photos get copied from the cameras onto the old Dell desktop, then imported into Lightroom, at which time I eliminate the worst. Problem #1 is that I keep too many. Could you elaborate on your comment that you're using your Mac Pro as a NAS?? A NAS is on my horizon, but my horizon keeps moving.

I always appreciate your thoughts and observations.

?
My workflow is borderline psychotic. ?I wish that was a joke.

1. Import photos into Lightroom Catalog (2010 Mac Pro)
2. Import photos from Lightroom Catalog into Capture One (2021 MacBook Pro)
3. Review, select and adjust photos in Capture One (2021 MacBook Pro)
a. If needed edit in Photoshop
(1) If needed process in Silver Efex Pro
(2) If needed process in Exposure x7
b. If needed process in Exposure x7
4. Import edited photos into Lightroom Catalog (2010 Mac Pro)
5. Export photos (either from Lightroom or Capture One, depending on how I¡¯m using the photos).

For a year now, I¡¯ve been planning to get a good disk storage unit hooked up to the MacBook Pro and move the data over. ?For now I¡¯m mainly using the Mac Pro as a NAS device, and for running software that won¡¯t work on the MacBook Pro.

For Lightroom specifically, I do my organization as Jon has described. ?Prior to upgrading to the MacBook, and upgrading Capture One, I¡¯d been doing most of my work in Lightroom.

Zane
