The Lack of Faith

Said the Bratzlaver: "Lack of faith is the cause of our exile. When faith will take the place of rationalism, the Messiah will come. A man may gain faith only through truth. He knows the truth only through intimacy with great leaders."

Paz to set up Israeli fast EV charging network and my opinion on electric vehicles

Hi Everyone!

Paz gas stations and other Israeli chains
are beginning to setup electric vehicle
charging stations all over Israel. They are
also getting into installing home charging
stations. See article at:

I think this is very good for the country.
Switching our reliance on imported gasoline to electric
vehicles that run off our natural gas power stations and
in the future renewable energy, is good.
Electric cars are still very expensive but the charging
infrastructure will also expand to include electric buses and
electric semi-trailers.
With all the problematic things going on with this government,
at least the electrification of the railways that started a
few years ago is continuing.

I have been watching quite a few video clips
about the new electric semi-trailers that are
entering the market this year. The Tesla semi-trailer,
when it finally reaches the market, is very cool.

Not only will electric semi-trailer trucks reduce
the import of gasoline, it will replace the desiel
fueled trucks that pollute the air. The electric
trucks are much cheaper to run and maintain
than desiel trucks.
There are over 37 million trucks in the USA
including over 5.5 million semi-trailers.
Tesla claims that its new electric semi-trailer
will save over $200,000 per year per semi-trailer.
When these trucks are available, and actually
begin to save companies alot of money, the
changeover will be relatively quick. Depending
on supplies, it could be just as quick as the
switch from phone land lines to mobile lines that
everyone has witnessed.

Major companies like Pepsico, Walmart,
Coca-Cola, etc.. are already testing and
ordering trucks for their fleets. It is a good start.
BTW - Pepsico, the biggest fleet,
has 9,308 semi-trailers - and thousands
of regular trucks. They ordered 100 semi-trailers
from Tesla. A drop in the bucket but at least a start.

This reminds me of the start of the desktop PC
and the start of portable phones.
Right before my aliyah back in 1984, I spent
several months selling computers and software
in a store in Brooklyn. I remember the first
IBM clones with 2 floppy drives and green text.
It was very expensive.
I also remember when Radio Shack would
advertise those big bulky mobile phones
which were very, very expensive and only
the rich could afford them.
Oh, and I remember back in college, connecting
to the Internet with an acoustic coupler modem
with the speed of 1,200 bits per second.
Today, with fiber, the home user can get speeds
of 500 megabytes for a reasonable price.

I am a big fan of solar energy but the costs
for the average household to convert is still
high. But remember that the cost of a water heater
back in the early 1980s, the dud shemesh on the roof,
probably started high. Today, it is hard to find a roof in Israel
that does not have one.

Electric cars are great. I drove one at
Better Place back in 2010:

I think the electric buses, electric trains and
electric semi-trailers will have a bigger affect
on the average Israeli.

There are many companies planning to bring out electric semi-trailers.
However, if Tesla succeeds, I think Tesla's can take a large slice of the market.

Here is a short new video about the new truck:

Here is a video over a year old, bu also about the Tesla semi-trailer:

The technology world is changing very quickly.
I think it is very interesting to follow and watch it develop.
Feedback is welcome.

Have a good night,
Jacob

?
Day 171 ¨C Divisive Insights??????
???
?
If a person was present when a statement was made or an act was committed by an individual, and then someone else who was present points out to the person that the act was intended to hurt him, he may not believe this interpretation of what had transpired. Not only is it wrong to believe a report that is rechilus, it is also prohibited to accept an insight that transforms an innocent occurrence into a malicious act.
?
?

SEFER SHMIRAS HALOSHON
?
A Contradiction
?
The gossiper should be filled with shame over his blatant disregard for the transgressions which he regularly commits, for surely he believes that every letter of the Torah is true and God-given.
?
Imagine that the gossiper were called to the Torah and the portion to be read contained one of the verses which prohibits loshon hora, such as ¡°Do not go as a gossipmonger among your people¡± (Vayikra 19:16); ¡°Accursed is one who strikes his fellow stealthily¡± (Devarim 27:24); ¡°Remember that which Hashem, your God, did to Miriam¡± (Bamidbar 24:9); ¡°Do not accept a false report¡± (Shemos 23:1); etc. As the gossiper looks at the scroll¡¯s words before reciting the opening blessing he notices that one of the letters in one of the above verses is missing a point, rendering it invalid. Surely he would not recite the blessing, for he knows that in order to be valid the Torah scroll must be complete, and that not a single letter may be deficient in any way. The gossiper clearly believes that every letter of the holy Torah is true. Why then does he totally disregard these verses in practice?!
?
As mentioned above, a person should choose at least one mitzvah to which he will dedicate himself with utmost devotion. There is particular benefit in selecting the mitzvah to guard one¡¯s tongue as one¡¯s singular mitzvah. We can liken this to earning a livelihood. The average person would prefer to have a steady livelihood which earns him a modest but predictable profit, as opposed to a business which may bring him large profits, but without any sort of regularity or predictability. The mitzvah of shmiras haloshon can accrue merit day and night in virtually any situation. Whether one is at home, in the study hall, market, or at a social gathering, he is forever presented with opportunities to refrain from speaking and listening to the forbidden. And as the Sages teach, ¡°One who sits and does not commit a sin is granted reward equivalent to that of one who performs a mitzvah¡± (Kiddushin 39b).

The Hour Strikes

A man came to the Lekhivitzer and asked him to teach him humility. At the very moment he was speaking, the clock struck the hour.

The rabbi commented: "From the sound of the clock striking the hour, we can receive ample instruction regarding the submission of the heart. Each one of us should ask himself: 'Another hour of my life has departed; have I accomlpished any improvement of my soul within it?' "

Short, sweet and permanent [free evaluation expiring tomprrow]

Chances are, that as a parent of a child with reading difficulties, you¡¯ve seen it all.

You know what options are out there ¨C and you¡¯ve tried most of them.

To help you make an informed decision about choosing the Zobin method, I¡¯ve compiled a few factors that make it stand out.

? One-per-Week

No daily sessions.?

When remediation sessions take place daily, you find your life slowly beginning to revolve around them.

µþ±ð²õ¾±»å±ð²õ¡

? It can also be stressful for the child to attend daily sessions outside of school hours. When children or teens are done with the school day, they want to relax and tune any kind of learning right out ¨C especially if the day was plagued with reading-related frustrations.

? If the remediation takes place during school hours, endless hours of learning are lost - and the learner feels ¡°different¡± from his or her peers.

Attending one session per week minimizes the stress on the parents and the learners ¨C and achieves maximum results in the minimum time.

???Live Tutor

Long sessions of gazing at a screen with nothing but a computer for encouragement can be tedious and demoralizing.

  • What if the learner is tired, unmotivated, needs a break, or just craves sympathy?

  • What if their needs alter over time and the approach needs gentle tweaking?

The Zobin method doesn¡¯t employ computers, only competent, adaptable, caring tutors.?

There is no cookie-cutter approach. The sessions are tailored to the learner¡¯s mind, personality and¡ mood.

?? Visible Progress?

Ever used a remediation method that brought the expression ¡°banging your head against a brick wall¡± to life?

Session after session, dollar after dollar disappears and¡ nothing.

You approach the kriah treacher for a progress report and you hear something vague, along the lines of, ¡°let¡¯s keep it up for another few weeks, and we¡¯ll see then.¡±

It¡¯s incredibly frustrating - and you deserve better.

The Zobin method employs a system of benchmarks that enables the tutor to monitor the precise achievements of each and every session.?

If there is no progress, the tutor will stop the sessions immediately.

?? Super Quick

A vague hope to see results in 50-100 paid hours is typical to the kriah remediation scene.

But you need results faster.?

Your child is missing class¡

???????????????????????????????????????falling behind¡

???????????????????????????????????????????????????growing despondent¡

You want them reading now.

What¡¯s more, more often than not, the promised 100 hours turn into 200 hours¡ then 300 hours.?

The Zobin method promises results in 12-20 one-hour-per-week sessions. That's a maximum of 5 months of remediation.

And then it¡¯s over.

The problem is solved.?

For life.

?Less Homework?

Kids hate homework ¨C but as parents we probably dislike it even more¡ because it¡¯s up to us to make sure it gets done!

So unless you¡¯re one of those wonder-parents who have figured out how to motivate their kids to do their homework without being told, you won¡¯t exactly welcome a bunch of assignments from the Kriah remediation tutor, on top of the Chumash, maths, english and current events.

Zobin tutors are cognizant of this and limit their homework to the bare minimum.?

The magic is achieved during the sessions - not in the evening afterward.

?Girls Included!

Girls are the future mothers and wives of Klal Yisroel.

If the Akeres Habayis finds davening, saying tehillim and bentching difficult, she will:

  • Find her Avodas Hashem impeded

  • Find it tough to teach her children love for what she dreads

  • Find it impossible to be the kind of role model she wants to be.

The Zobin method is offered to both genders equally.

Here¡¯s what Tami, the mother of a 10-year-old girl had to say about her experience with the method:

¡°We came to the Machon with our 10-year-old daughter, feeling stuck.?

She was having problems with fluency and accuracy in her reading, despite all the help she was getting.?

She was having an especially hard time with Loshon HaKodesh, which was what she needed for davening and studying.?

In the lessons at the Machon she closed the gap in Hebrew and reading comprehension after only 4 or 5 lessons, and after the 9th lessons she was at an amazingly high level, reading Loshon Hakodesh quickly and confidently.?

This gave a tremendous boost to her self-confidence, and it's all thanks to this encouraging, positive approach that is truly one of a kind.¡±

- Tami

SEFER CHOFETZ CHAIM
?
Day 170 ¨C Believing Constructive Information???????????
?
Unlike listening to rechilus, which is justified when the information is pertinent, believing rechilus is not permissible regardless of one¡¯s purpose. Even if one must inquire about a person with whom he is considering entering into a relationship, he may not believe as fact any negative information that has been told about the person. Never may one develop feelings of hatred towards a person on the basis of information heard about him ¨C even though the information was obtained in a permissible manner.
?

?
SEFER SHMIRAS HALOSHON
?
Most Neglected

?
Above, we referred to shmiras haloshon as a meis mitzvah, a mitzvah which is woefully ignored by many who do not reckon it as a mitzvah at all. Though this needs no proof, we will nevertheless demonstrate that it is true.
?
There are people who find nothing wrong with saying the most derogatory remarks about others, for no good reason. When asked, ¡°Why do you speak loshon hora?¡¯¡¯ they respond with dozens of reasons as to why their words are not loshon hora at all! If the questioner then responds with irrefutable proof that, indeed, the statements voiced do constitute loshon hora, they respond, ¡°Well, it¡¯s not loshon hora when said about So-and-so ¡ª it¡¯s a mitzvah to speak ill of him!¡¯¡¯ The more one tries to convince them that they err, the more they heap calumny upon the subject of their ill-spoken words.
?
Does this happen with other sins? Does an otherwise observant Jew who has been caught eating something forbidden respond to his reprover by grabbing another piece of the food and stuffing it into his own mouth? Certainly not. Why, then, does this occur with the sin of loshon hora which, as we have shown in previous chapters, is among the worst sins in the Torah? The answer is that this very serious matter has become hefker, disregarded, and trampled upon by many. We speak not only of habitual gossipers. There are many people who are not given to gossip, yet do not consider loshon hora as serious as most other sins. Therefore, they turn a deaf ear when told to refrain from speaking the forbidden.
?
There is no greater meis mitzvah in our time.

All Day

The Medzibozer commented on the verse: "My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all day: 'Where is your God?' (Psalms 42:4). "How can you enjoy your food and your pleasures when you remember that in the After-Life you will be asked; 'Where was your God all day?' The prohibition which forbids acceptance of loshon hora or rechilus, which we have translated ¡°Do not accept a false report,¡± uses the term ¡°shav,¡± which literally means vain or meaningless. Clearly, the inference is that negative speech is not often to be given credence.
?
It is often difficult, if not impossible, for a speaker to convey every detail and all background information that is crucial for an accurate understanding of a given occurrence. Certainly, if the speaker is violating halachah by relating rechilus, one dare not assume that he is being careful to speak only the truth. Therefore, as in the case of loshon hora, belief of secondhand information in a way that could cause ill feelings among people is unjustified and prohibited.

The obligation to bury a meis mitzvah, unattended corpse, rests upon all Jews without exception. The Talmud (Berachos 19b) states that even a Kohen Gadol (High Priest), a nazir,1 or someone who is on his way to the Temple to bring a Pesach offering must attend to a meis mitzvah.
?
Sefer Chareidim (105:261) writes that a mitzvah which the current generation is neglecting is akin to a meis mitzvah. When no one pursues a given mitzvah ¡ª pursue it! Otherwise, that mitzvah ascends before the Heavenly Throne and complains, ¡°How lowly I am, for I am all but forgotten from among the people.¡¯¡¯
?
What is an actual meis mitzvah? A lifeless corpse. The Torah is stringent regarding its burial, not because of what it is now, but because of what it once was ¡ª an abode for a Jewish soul. It is thus that the Torah requires that a Kohen Gadol ¡ª who is not permitted to attend to the corpse of even his own father or mother ¡ª attend to a meis mitzvah, so that it not lie in disgrace. Surely, then, if a mitzvah of the Torah ¡ª which is more precious than gems (Mishlei 3:13) and is the ¡°daily delight¡± of the One Above (ibid. 8:30) ¡ª is lying in disgrace, it is our obligation to strengthen ourselves in its observance, so that it not be cause for indictment of our generation before Hashem.
?
To our misfortune, the concept of loshon hora is woefully ignored by many in our generation, thus making it a ¡°meis mitzvah¡± of our day. How great then is the reward of those who rescue this mitzvah from disgrace by faithfully adhering to the laws of shmiras haloshon.
