Love is the Chief Thing

The Besht was asked: "What is the chief point in service to the Lord, if it be true, as you teach, that fasting and self-chastisement are sinful?"

The Besht answered: "The main thing is to encompass onself in the love of God, the love of Israel , and the love of Torah. A man may attain this if he secures enough nourishment to preseve his health, and if he makes use of his strength to battle against evil inclinations."
