The Gerer Rabbi said: "The twelve months are the same as the number of Jacob's sons; each month is a symbol of one of the tribes. The month of Adar represents Joseph, and in asmuch as two tribes are descended from him, we have two months of Adar in leap years. Haman held the same high position as Joseph, but when he wished to annihilate the Jews in the month of Joseph, the latter's dream was fulfilled: 'my sheaf arose and also remained standing uprght' (Genesis 37:7)."
