Settling the Land of Israel
Rabbi Meir Yehiel of Ostrovsta commented on the verse: 'Go forth... to the land that I will show you.' (Genesis 12:1) He said: "The commandment to settle the land of Israel is a great one - so much so that it is the first commandment ever decreed upon a Jew."
