The Uses of Life
A Hasid once asked the Berditchiver Rabbi to explain why the Lord did not provide him once a year with sufficient funds for his annual needs, and thus free his mind for spiritual activities.
The Rabbi replied: "We cannot comprehend God's reasons. Perhaps He desires to see what use you will make of this life He has granted you, while you are burdened with the task of carving out a living."
