The Earth Teaches Us
Rabbi Uri Strelisker said: "We are taught by our sages (Ethics of the Fathers 2:2) that the study of Torah is good with the way of the earth (??? ???). We find that for all of our necessities we must thank the earth. Without the earth we have neitehr food nor clothing. Yet we tread upon her, dig her, spit upon her, and the earth accepts every abuse without complaint. The student of the Torah should adopt these ways of the earth. No matter how greatly his opinion is sought and esteeemed, he should consider himself lowly, and should bear demeanment from anyone without complaint or anger."
