Re: Naion eye progression

Hello. I believe it is the suction of the mask. My event just happened 4 weeks ago and vacation is a month away so maybe that¡¯s just for vacation..

Curious why snorkeling would be out? I have family that lives in Hawaii and visit often. Since my event I have snorkeled 10-12 times (over six visits). Not for long periods of time; perhaps an hour at longest.?

I also had the bright flash of light with loud noises (one night even when my husband closed the magnetic cover on his iPad).? It had seemed to go away but recently has happened again. My event was in 2020.?

? Hi Lisa, I have flown a handful of times without incident but all my flights have been less than 5 hours.? In reviewing old posts, many?people fly many times a year without incident while a couple of people stated that their naion occurred after flying the day before.? So based on statistics it seems safe.? What I do is to avoid?red eye flights so that it doesn¡¯t interfere with my normal sleep schedule.? For the first six months I was advised to avoid high intensity sports, avoid lifting heavy objects, stay out of hot baths, saunas, and hot tubs, stay very hydrated, basically not do?anything that could mess with blood pressure.? One weird thing that I noticed in the first 18 months, and others have commented as well, is that a sharp or sudden noise will cause a bright flash in my naion eye. ?

I don¡¯t snorkel or scuba dive so can¡¯t comment on that, maybe others can.

Scott?

Thank you Scott for answering all my questions ?? the dr did tell me not to do anything dangerous bc I need to keep that good eye. We are going on vacation the end of march and she did say no snorkeling or scuba diving now. Wondering if that is just for now or forever. Do you know if people with NAION can go in airplanes?

Hi Lisa, I don¡¯t have sleep apnea. After much testing, it revealed no typical risk factors except for small cup to disk ratios in both eyes. 0.2 in affected eye and 0.1 in good eye.? Always good bp,?on no medications and overall health was very good.? The only thing different in my life for the 3 months leading up my naion was a lot of stress at work and at home.? Can¡¯t be sure but I think that messed with my otherwise normal bp.

8 years later, don¡¯t think about it so much, and just trying to stay healthy to save my good eye.

Take care...Scott

Further to Lisa¡¯s question about progression. ?
August 22 was normal checkup.
October 8 was first photo of naion.
November 4 shows further hemorrahaging.
At that point I had lost my central vision.
April 15 shows how it has looked since then,
