Pota Plus extension logging to ACL
I've been using the Pota Plus browser extension for a while now but just realized that it has the ability to log to ACL using the ham-apps-proxy. When I log from the extension, it picks up everything except the park reference. I get a message in ACL saying it wasn't ready to log because it was performing another process. I also get a pop up saying "please enter a call sign before pressing enter." I do see that the ham-apps-proxy captures the park reference in the Other-1 field. I have my Pota Plus options set to include Other1=%PARKREF%. Any ideas on how I can get ACL to pick up the park? |
Hi Miclarke, Thanks for your e-mail.? I'm sorry that you have run into trouble.? I'm not familiar with Pota Plus or have any insights into how they coded their software.??The only setting in our software is to enable the API.? All the rest is handled by the connecting program. You should touch base with the Pota Plus folks.? Our API functionality is fully developed, used by a variety of programs and when implemented properly by the connecting program, works fine.?? I have pota going into? "sig_info"? as per n3fjp instructions.? is this pota plus something different than doing that?? Dave Garber VE3WEJ / VE3IE On Wed, Mar 19, 2025 at 7:36?PM WA2NWN via <WA2NWN=[email protected]> wrote:

I use Polo app for when activating which uses the Sig_info and my_sig_info.?
?
In N3FJP I have other 1 and other 2 set to the same names.
?
When I export from Polo to ADIF then into ACLOG the data works fine.?
?
When I use the QSL button on PoTA PLUS app on chrome it never pulls over the park number. I also get a pop up saying "please enter a call sign before pressing enter." So I have to tab over from the callsign field, it plops in everything but the park number which I manually type. Then I can log the QSO.? |
I do exactly as WA2NWN described for POTA activations.? However, when hunting, I use an app called hunterlog (.? This was written as a self-contained app to replace POTAPlus.? While more difficult to get setup and to maintain, it works perfectly for transferring QSOs to ACLog (or several other loggers).? hunterlog can also do rig control via ACLOG, flrig and more.? It has made my POTA and SOTA hunting a lot easier.

I wish there was a standardized N3FJP ACLog "template" for POTA -
?? or perhaps better stated, "a type of preconfigured contest log specifically to be used by a POTA activator" with all required Fields already set up in the proper manner to eventually be imported (via ADIF) into the main ACLog, and also used to report activity to the POTA website.?
?
But I suppose that might still have problems with LoTW, which I believe requires a new TQSL entry for each new POTA location?
Do most POTA operators also confirm contacts via LoTW? |
Fred,
?
Since you asked about LOTW, I believe every POTA operator should upload QSO's to LOTW.? It's as much a curtesy as any QSL.? For hams that want to earn WAS or even 5BWAS, LOTW is much more economical than paper QSL cards, so please make it a habit.
I have activated 34 POTA locations with more than 13K QSO's, all using just N3FJP.? I only have one TQSL.? It's done using tools inside of ACLog.? ?
The basic procedure:
At each location, in Settings/Setup change the Lat/Long, Grid, State and County for the POTA location.? I have my Setup page by default to come up when I start AClog, so I don't forget to change this info.
Operate the park location as normal.? The cool thing is all previous QSO info with a station will come up.? No internet, no problem.? Turn off "look up" and use Scott's free database info if you want.? After the operation, highlight all of the operations QSO's.? File/Export/Selected records and save to your usual location.? That file get's uploaded to POTA.??
Then, setup LOTW for the new location.? Go to eLogs/LOTW.? On the left, under LOTW Location click ADD.? Update grid, zones, state and county. Provide a new station name and click Finish. Now, go back and select the new location under LOTW Location.? Close page.? Highlight all of the new POTA operation QSO's again, click on elogs/LOTW and click "Selected Contacts From Main Form".? It will upload those POTA contacts to LOTW.? You must have setup AClog to work with TQSL certificate and have all of those functions working obviously.??
I also upload the POTA QSO's to elogs/Club Log too. To update QRZ records, I sync those from LOTW.? In QRZ, click your callsign/My Logbook, then Settings and Import. That updates your QRZ records, including LOTW confirmations. ?
You can log park numbers if you want, but frankly, it's on the activator to upload there log for the operation, and it's tied to the park number.? The system will track park to parks, activations and hunters with no effort.
?
I don't need any special software, this is all built into AClog, and works like a dream.

Hi Fred, Thanks for your follow up.? I've posted this so many times it seems like it should be a pinned post.
You DO NOT need to change your station location in TQSL for each activation! Since April of 2020 TQSL (version 2.5.2) has had an override to use station information contained in the ADIF file. Relevant release note attached.
