As others have said I am not a big contester.? I do like short events.? I mostly operate CW.? I usually run but when I run I watch the spotting form for stations I want to work.? If I am running and leave my frequency to operate the station I want or/need I want a quick way to return to the frequency I was running.? I could use the frequency memory function on my radio but due to the where my radio is installed in an equipment rack adjacent to my radio desk that is not convenient.? A quick and simple way to return to my running frequency is when I start running a frequency I place my callsign in the callsign box and touch tab, not enter.? This initiates a contact with myself.? Then I put my callsign and corresponding frequency into the call history form with a CTRL-H. ?
?
Now I can run my frequency, jump quickly to a different frequency/band and work the station I want/need.? Then I switch back to my running frequency by clicking on my callsign in the call history form.
?
I only work one station at a time in S&P mode to reduce the chance of losing my running frequency.? I always return to my running frequency and make at least one CQ before making a jump again.
?
BTW this works for me even to changing bands because I have an auto-switching amp and auto tuner in the rack with my Icom.
