Do you use LOTW (Log of the World)?
?
Do not reply to this post. Just click on the poll and answer it.
?
I am interested in the penetration of LOTW within contest logger users and the possibility of leveraging the certificate that LOTW provides as a way of authenticating Telnet users.? This is in response to the increasing level of malicious spots during contest weekends.?
?
I am just as interested in those who answer the last four categories as I am those who answer "Yes".

Rotator not turning as expected with bidirectional aerial.
Hi all,
I have a SteppIR Urbanbeam which is a rotary dipole on 40m and 30m so I ticked the Bidirectional box in rotator setup.? ?As you can see from the attached picture, I’ve set my aerial up as two devices, one for 7 and 10MHz and the other one for the higher bands where it’s a two element beam.
With HA100T in the callsign entry box so the heading is showing correct at 105° and my aerial pointing at 270°
If I hit ALT-J, the rotator tries to turn to 105°.? ?I would expect it to just twitch round to 285° as it knows it’s bidirectional.
If I hit ALT-L, the rotator tries to turn to 105°.? ?Well actually, that’s not long path, that’s short path.
If I remove the callsign from the entry box and type 285 in there and hit ALT-J, again, it tries to turn the rotator to 105°.
Finally, if I type 285 in the rotator control program and click the ‘Turn’ button, the rotator turns to 105°.
On the higher bands, it all works perfectly.
Have I missed something really obvious???The setup (attached) looks correct to me.
Thanks,
73 Keith.

link to new version message weird??
On my desktop machine the link to the current new version message:? /g/N1MMLoggerPlus/topic/new_version/15709085 Works ok, but when I put in on my internal web page for guest ops to read it goes to a 2018 message instead.? Also on the logging computer for guest ops the help/revision history menu goes to the same 2018 message. ? David Robbins K1TTT e-mail: mailto:k1ttt@... web: AR-Cluster node: telnet://k1ttt.net:7373

Chuck, To answer to you. you need to configure the subbands. CW/SSB/Numeric. That way, as soon as you're outside the section, you'll see it. 73. Chris F5ind.

I just did a quick try of this to refresh my memory, and found that if my bandmap limits are set correctly, the F keys will not function to send messages on SSB if I am out of band. Of course, N1MM does not have full hardware control and cannot prevent you from asserting PTT or VOX and transmitting anyway. I am not on the N1MM team, but here is my take on this if I was asked to implement it. Ultimately, if you use the program as designed, it already makes a pretty good attempt to prevent out of band operation, as noted above. It would be technically possible for the program to create an alert message when you tune below your band segment. You would still have to define those band segments yourself, just like setting up your bandmap, since they vary throughout the world. But if this warning was implemented, how many tech support requests would the team get for people getting those error message for other reasons, and not understanding why? For example, they forgot to set band limits, or had mode set wrong. The development team has to balance these issues and not create more problems for themselves. These same issues reply to requests like "making the VFO skip frequencies with beacons", etc. I as a developer would not want much to do with those. These types of requests can be better handled by third party utilities (like the N1MM toolbox item I noted) for those feeling the need. Even better, make the effort to write such an add-on. IMHO, we just have to be proper control operators and insure operation in band, ourselves as our licenses require. Things will go wrong on rare occasion, but no one is going to jail for that. There is only so much that one should rely on technology to do for us. N1MM guys, I don't want to speak for you. This is what my take would be if I had your demanding and largely thankless job!

RE:
Worse, Mike.??Every CQWW/WPX contest, I hear people calling CQ and making QSOs on 14,349.999 kHz and 21,449.999 kHz.
Well, if they are USA people, then they don't know the FCC rules.? If they are DX, well, lots of "DX" countries allow that sort of thing.? It is up to each of us to obey/follow our country's rules.? The "DX" calling CQ on 14349.999 might be perfectly legal for his/her country...but not for many others who might answer there..

Version 1.0.10661 (April 8, 2025)
- Station Info Window: When changing the station callsign, change the title of the Score Summary window at the same time. (N2IC) (Coded by K3CT)
- Added missing (updated) file LogTypeSelectionDialog.vb (Coded by NA3M)
- Configurer: Corrected tool tip for real-time scoring selection (W1NV) (Coded by N1MM)
- MO QSO Party: Enabled self-spotting (KK0U) (Coded by K3CT)
- GCUP (Gagarin Cup): No Band Change timer for Multi-Op category, Cabrillo Instructions added, Call History file updated. (RG3G) (Coded by NA3M)
- RFCHAMPCW, RFCHAMPSSB contests: Update the RFZoneForObl function to the latest rules. (Coded by NA3M)
- Logger+ Audio: Deprecate the use of {OPERATOR} in function key messages and Config-Other "Letters Wav File Path" because the use of {OPERATOR} for variations in phonetics, language changes the logged QSO "Operator" field. The replacement is {WAVDIR}. When the program starts or when operator changes (OpOn or Ctrl+O), {WAVDIR} is set to the operator callsign. The intent is for the largest population of users, no changes should be necessary. {OPERATOR} can continue to be used in function key files but the program default SSB function key messages have been changed to use {WAVDIR}. Those operators that want to vary wav or letters files for phonetics or language changes, should change their function key files to use {WAVDIR} and the new {SetWavDir} macro. (Coded by K3CT)
- New Macro: Added {SetWavDir} macro to change the value of {WAVDIR} used in function key messages and the Letters Wav File Path. This macro can be added to a function key message or executed with key mapper or StreamDeck. This allows the on the fly switching of wav file directories for variations in phonetics, language, etc. The macro form is {SetWavDir Text} where "Text" is the new {WAVDIR} value. When this macro is combined in a function key, the {SetWavDir} macro is executed before playing wav files. These forms of the macro can also be used: {SetWavDir {OPERATOR}} or {SetWavDir {OPERATOR}Text} (where "Text" is any string). For instance when the operator is K3CT, {SetWavDir {OPERATOR}_2} will set {WAVDIR} = K3CT_2. (Coded by K3CT)
- Logger+ Audio: When {WAVDIR} does not equal the operator callsign, the value of {WAVDIR} is added to the Entry window title bar. (N1MM) (Coded by K3CT)
- Logger+ Audio: Add a window button to audit wav files with the current value of {WAVDIR}. Wav files are no longer audited when enabling the concatenate option. When the concatenate option is not enabled, the wav file formats can vary. When the concatenate option is enabled, the wav file formats need to match. If playing a message with the concatenate option enabled, invalid format files are skipped and displayed in an Entry Window NIMB (None Interruptible Message Box). Changed the wording and format of the audit text. (Coded by K3CT)
- Logger+ Audio: The wav file audit includes a check of files required to enable advanced voicing of numbers. If one or more advanced voicing wav files are missing, advanced voicing of numbers is not enabled. (Coded by K3CT)
- Logger+ Audio: When the concatenate option is not used and a wav file is not found, add text to the ErrorLog.txt file and the Logger+ Audio window to make it easier to debug. (Coded by K3CT)
- Logger+ Audio: Reduced the wav file audit execution time. (Coded by K3CT)
- Configurer, Other tab: If the Letters Wav File Path was {Operator}\ change to {WAVDIR}\. If an older program version is installed, revert back to {Operator}\. (Coded by K3CT)
WJST: Fix a SO2R / WJST issue that was causing the wrong radio to transmit. (KK1L) (Coded by K3CT)?

We see messages? near daily from good folks who cannot get their radio interfaced with their computer.(for whatever reason)

Can you fathom the gigantic increase in messages where people start complaining that their radio/ logger 'let them' work out of band compared to what's legally allowed by their license?

The majority of stations that end up with a couple out of band oopsies got there by clicking on spots.
If you were assisted and you ended up clicking on spots outside US band, one way to reduce this likelihood is to use clusters have a way to filter spots by frequency range.
Even then, things can be complicated for working split. N1MM is smart enough to go split if you click on a spot showing the split (given correct syntax), and can also post spots with the split in the comment.
