AnyTone's Response to the MULTIPLE CPS Problems
All,
Echo at AnyTone responded very quickly to my message and stated that AnyTone would be testing CPS releases with Contact Manager prior to releasing them in the future.
Hopefully this leads to a long-term resolution of the many problems we've encountered.

FYI I have sent a message to AnyTone on this. Hope it helps - - I don't know how their software development team works, but only know that this problem appears over and over in new CPS releases just after they "fix" something.
All software has bugs. Let's hope that AnyTone figures out how to stop repeating this mistake.

I am very concerned about software bugs that are present in three different AnyTone CPS releases. These bugs continue to reappear for various CPS releases after your team has "corrected" them. This is not acceptable. I have received many angry messages from AnyTone owners (one is below), and have confirmed their complaints. The affected CPS releases are D878UVII Version 2.04, D878UV Version 1.26, and D578UV Version 1.15. Detailed information on each problem is below. D878UVII Version 2.04* Loads CM-created DCF with no problems. * Creates bad DCF. (Will display FILE ERROR when importing a DCF file created by CPS, even when this file has not been edited in any way.) * "New File" icon on toolbar does nothing (but CTRL-N works) * When exporting DCF with less than 60,000 contacts in the codeplug, displays an odd error message: D878UVII ACCEPTS MAXIMUM 500K DIGITAL CONTACTS. THE PARTS EXCEEDING 200K CAN NOT BE IMPORTED. This message is very confusing on many levels - (1) No import operation was in progress - a DCF was being exported, (2) The codeplug had less than 60K contacts, and (3) Why tell us that the 'PARTS EXCEEDING 200K CAN NOT BE IMPORTED' when the limit is 500K digital contacts?!? D878UV Version 1.26* Loads CM-created DCF with no problems. * Creates bad DCF. (Will display FILE ERROR when importing a DCF file created by CPS, even when this file has not been edited in any way.) * When clicking the ZONE setting, CPS erroneously displays A and B channel data. The zones themselves are intact. Long-standing bug in AnyTone CPS. D578UV Version 1.15* Loads CM-created DCF with no problems. * Creates bad DCF. (Will display FILE ERROR when importing a DCF file created by CPS, even when this file has not been edited in any way.) * When exporting DCF with less than 60,000 contacts in the codeplug, displays an odd error message: D878UVII ACCEPTS MAXIMUM 500K DIGITAL CONTACTS. THE PARTS EXCEEDING 200K CAN NOT BE IMPORTED same as for D878UV Version 2.04. In closing, please be aware that I have worked very cooperatively with AnyTone to resolve these same issues numerous times since 2018. Forensic investigations of third-party software (such as the AnyTone CPS) is time consuming and expensive. It is not reasonable for me to further pursue future occurrences of this problem when I can only expect AnyTone's software team will recreate the problems again at a future time. Therefore, I will probably no longer directly pursue problems of this type unless there is a clear and present defect in the Contact Manager software. You are welcome to use Contact Manager to fully test DCF file exports and I recommend that your software team add that step to the CPS release process. This software can be downloaded from .

Anytone needs to get its act together. My family owns 8 Anytones, and I cannot recommend an Anytone to anyone, nor will I buy another one until this is corrected.? The length of time that they are taking to fix this makes me consider that I may never recommend one in the future.

I played some more and it is definitely a problem with Zones.?Having any results in the error.? From my real code plug I deleted them all and the DCF opened without error.? I then created one zone with one channel and the load error returned.??

AnyTone seems to have a habit of breaking their own code, very frequently.

Let's see if their 1.25 release fixes this. If not I will reach out to them. (It seems that they screw this up for all models - they probably don't test that it works.)

The text in the "Additional Search Information" field can be saved in a TXT file (or wherever you like to save such things) for reuse. Copy it out of the TXT file and paste into that window. That way you can save different search criteria...useful if you support different radios with different storage capacities or support other hams/teams with different preferences

Barry - Wow, you worked hard at that! Perhaps this is a good thing to look at in a future release. You can use File->Save As. . . to save open codeplugs to a new file without manually copying them (or press the [F12] as in other wondoze software).
Lee's approach also looks slick as well.

I just use ?I only select the English speaking countries, last time was about 78k, takes about 3 min and done,, its $12 a year for the sight use and it is already in the format you want for the display well worth it.

At www.radioid.net I selected Generator then Formats and then "Continents/Countries/States ..". ?I then selected all the Continents w/e of "Asia Pacific. ?That gave me ?187,999 contacts. ?I then went thru the list of all those not selected and added some DXCC
to bring up the contacts to around 194,000. ?I then proceeded to copied the table and paste it into Notepad. ?I removed everything that was not checked from the list and a little cleanup. ?
I then copied that into your program "Additional Search Information", ?Selected "Add All Records" and "Done Searching" ?I now have 194,013 digital records.
That took about 90 minutes including some testing to make sure the technique would work.
It would be nice if you could add a table to your program that would allow a graphic selection in the Generator as in radioed.net that would then format the selection and populate the "Search Information.
ALSO when "Save Codeplug File is selected, ?it overwrites the same dcf file that was loaded. I had to make a copy of the dcf file that CPS created before loading it.

Barry,
The databases do not contain a continent field, so that approach, while logical, will fail.
Try assembling a union of items that are in the databases - this might be tedious the first time you set it up. For example:
I heard that Transylvania is a new DXCC entity by the way, so be the first to work it!

Hello Barry,
The current release of this product doesn't have the ability to filter out specific countries or regions.
The best approach to getting the query you want is to simply build a list of what regions you want included in the Compound Query box. Contact Manager will retain this setting between program sessions, by the way, so that you only need enter it once.

If I can filter out "Asia Pacific" that would update 187986 contacts. ?I would lose 14,480 contacts.

You're right on the money. I have resisted monetizing Contact Manager - it has remained a "free" product for hams with no strings, no "DLL Hell" and other nonsense that seems par for the course with modern software.
What I'd like to do with this program now is connect it with non-DMR radios and allow free interchange of information across all makes.
RT Systems makes great products, and this is probably a good time for them to begin supporting DMR transceivers. They seem to have held back (like you mentioned) while the dust cloud of new products was in progress.
The Contact Manager concept is a bit of dinosaur, but it is a good working solution that seems to have served the ham radio community well.?
To take CM to the next level, we need a "dream team" of people that are committed to a long-term project. Skillsets that would be desirable :
- Data Security
- Systems Architect (Management of Distributed Development Teams a plus)
- Database Design
- Forensic Data Structures
- Web / CGI / AJAX administration
- Web layout for Uniform User Interface design
- Coding (C++ / C# / Javascript / etc.)
- Documentation and Customer Communication
- Legal with preferred experience with Software patents and law

Seeing how Anytone seems to have forgotten who you are, I have a theory. RT Systems has now decided to come out with programming software to support DMR radios. They have tested the waters with software for the TYT MD-380. My guess is a version of their software
for the very popular Anytone 878 is not far behind. With that said, Anytone may see another way to monetize a radio sale. Offer RT Systems some preferred "hooks" into their software. They now don't have to spend development dollars updating their CPS. Let
someone else do the heavy lifting. Plus, this keeps the HAM dealers happy, as many of them sell RT systems software and their proprietary cables.?
Programs like yours become a nuisance since you are so gracious in sharing your work with the DMR community. I saw this exact situation unfold with some early programming stuff for Yaesu radios back in the day.?
Am I off base?
