Re: Contact Microphone advice
Most electret have a built-in FET, which results in an impedance of 600-5000 ohms. These don't need a high impedance of 1 Megohm. OTOH, electret capsule without a built-in FET require a very high

Re: Contact Microphone advice
You will need a high impedance for electret: 1M Ohm or more. You can use an active DI, a triton fet for piezo, or have a look to the opamp alice circuits from Jules R. 50dB of gain should be OK since

Contact Microphone advice
I saw in a documentary a researcher recording the sound of insects with a contact microphone. His preamp must have been strong, he would attach the piezo to a branch and record the vibrations produced

Re: SASS / Fritz - binaural application?
Thanks!? Agreed on the top octave going away, but as long as I can hear without distortion I can do a good mix. A few years ago we had a demo of an IEM system that include ambience mics mounted

Re: SASS / Fritz - binaural application?
I had a lot of fun recording with a Jecklin disk- a thrift store LP with foam sheets glued to both sides, omnidirectional condensers pointed toward the center with 3-4¡± spacing each side. I used a

Re: SASS / Fritz - binaural application?
Hey Scott, Yes, conventional wisdom for headphone monitoring would point towards a binaural array. I have had pleasant results with a 180mm spherical baffle and a pair of omni capsules. A big

SASS / Fritz - binaural application?
So here's a weird one. I'm pretty much aging out of live sound mixing, because my ears have gotten too sensitive. Loud actually hurts, and more importantly loud causes distortion and I'm not hearing

Re: Good donor body for DIY
Hey! Hope you're well! I was looking for the F22 and stumbled upon your post. How do you like it after modding it? Is the capsule swap good or doest it still has it's problems? I wanted to buy one and

Re: DIY PUI Capsule Mic
I noticed something similar with a heat shrink tubing, the title and description says 2:1, but an included photo shows 3:1.

Re: 48v FET-capsule circuit for longer cable runs?
I have run my AmbiAlice on 100ft snakes on a stage with lighting etc with no issues - it is four channels of SimpleP48. BTW the SimpleP48 actually provides a balanced output. It is not 100% balanced

Re: 48v FET-capsule circuit for longer cable runs?
I have 2 semi-permanent balanced runs of about 50 ft, from the outside to my den, and I've currently got a pair of AOM-5024s with the simpleP48 powering on it... and they work very well. So I would

I have to say that with the several pairs of homemade plugin-power mics I've made over the years,? I've used everything from custom lavalier cable from a location-sound company and Switchcraft 3.5mm
