Re: Top secret Earthworks M50 capsule, or the Thunder Capsule!
Done that many times.....
My son inherited my H1n. I had to remind him of that a couple times already.
I also recorded that storm; all half hour of it that we got in Windsor. I used my H2n in surround

Testing microphones at low frequencies
In a reply to the thread titled "Top secret Earthworks M50 capsule..." I
suggested that the low frequency response of an omnidirectional microphone
can be tested by placing the microphone can be

Re: Top secret Earthworks M50 capsule, or the Thunder Capsule!
When used as I suggested, A woofer in a small enclosure will have extremely
uniform response in the range below its resonance. That is to say, perhaps
from 100 Hz down to DC.

Re: Top secret Earthworks M50 capsule, or the Thunder Capsule!
You should assume that loudspeakers will have frequency response variations, just as microphones do.
Also just like microphones, the enclosure will have a significant effect on the

Re: Top secret Earthworks M50 capsule, or the Thunder Capsule!
So - I just had a good look at one of my unused 5024 capsules.... I'm not seeing a small vent hole. Can anyone confirm this? Do they maybe vent through the front spacers?
I did see some open

It would have been a list or two ago, and long gone from my archives.? But at one point somebody (I think Mark Strong from JLI) suggested putting a long piece of tubing behind an omni capsule instead

needs to be a sealed hole to connect to the

Re: Top secret Earthworks M50 capsule, or the Thunder Capsule!
An omni electret's LF response is usually limited by
* the small hole which prevents it acting as a barometer
* the electronics.
The hole is easily seen on the side of a B&K capsule but should be

Re: Top secret Earthworks M50 capsule, or the Thunder Capsule!
I'm just a punter, but I am amazed by the amount of low bass that even a 10mm omni electret will capture. It's usually too much.
To explore this, i would look into the following:
