Re: Top secret Earthworks M50 capsule, or the Thunder Capsule!
My understanding is that the XT has an extended HF response (up to 40kHz). When down-sampled, the LF limit of 20Hz becomes 10 or 5 Hz, but it does not have the capability of recording 10Hz or 5Hz

Re: Top secret Earthworks M50 capsule, or the Thunder Capsule!
It's a special order from Schoeps done on demand. Then you have to use the cut 1 anytime you are not recording elephants or tortoise

Thanks for the replies everyone.? Yes, I already have an "extra" XYH-5 capsule, so was hoping it would be easy to use... seems not. Main reasons I wanted to go this route were: 1) I'm already kind of

Re: Zoom capsule hacking
Hi. Unless you already have a Zoom H5 or H6 recorder that you want to plug into, I would pick a common locking multi-pin connector - like an 'aircraft' connector (

Re: Zoom capsule hacking
I've seen a mod for the mic unit that is for the 3,5mm jack to increase the pip power. Had done it a while back and this mod needs to desolder the tiniest smd parts. Have not noticed a big change. Not

Re: Zoom capsule hacking
For your project I'm not sure going the Zoom way is the easiest. You find a lot of easier builts in this group, and swapping can be done based on standard XLR connectors (XLR3 or 5). This makes up for

Re: 2nd order ambisonic
They mostly are. Check out several of the commercial ones for ideas. Interestingly, 8 capsules is not quite 2nd order, in theory you need 9. Whatever geometry you end up with. The Sparta Arrary2SH

Hi Casey, Yes that's exactly what I did. I'm sure someone must have done it but couldn't find a reference anywhere. It's a very pleasing use of phantom power symmetry. I will match front facing

I assume this is what you did, but in case it's useful here's the fig8 I've been using <http://caseyconnor.org/pub/audio/electret8/SP48_fig8.png>. As others have said on this board, it's important

Re: SimpleP48 figure 8
I should add, as my last post was a bit confusing, that the capsules are wired with capsule 1+? to pin 2 and capsule 2+? to pin 3,? which gives the right bias. Richard

Re: 2nd order ambisonic
You could easily extend this to 8 capsules You would need to redo the design for the capsule mounts I would probably go to 16mm capsules if I were to do that to keep them closer. Best Regards, Jules

Jules devised the AmbiAlice for his Instructable so he can advise, but I suppose since his design uses the "Simple P48" circuit, I suppose you could use 8 conductor tube microphone cable, maybe? You
