Re: capsules for close micing drums - suggestions?

Ive been working on some drum mics from modding my builds and a sub kick. Originally I thought I would need a transformer on the 6.5" woofer I was using. Turns out I don't just wire straight?to the XLR Pin 2&3 with the shield?on the mic cable going to ground for RF/EMI. I also had a couple engineers?back in the day show me? a tip for SM57's as kick and inside tom mics. THey would plug them into line level inputs on the console and add maybe 6-12 db of gain to get the level they needed. And as Jerry mentioned EQ was needed to get the tone they wanted.?

The other thing I started doing is using a capacitor to pad my TSB2555B mics. Neumann does it on their U87 and U87 ai mics they use a 560pF on one and a 270pF on the other. For High Hat and snare 220pF on the TSB2555B works great. Im building a front facing mic with this capsule next week and will try and stick it in a kick drum soon. WIll let you know how it comes out.?

Rather like removing the transformer from a SM57 then? I have heard
about that mod as one that may be good for drums, but I don't actually
have a SM57, and maybe I should.
